[edit] History
Lumileds Lighting was formed in November 1999 as a joint venture between Philips Lighting and Agilent Technologies. It developes and markets LEDs. Upon Philips' acquisition, Lumileds has become a business unit within Philips Lighting and is known as Philips Lumileds Lighting Company.
[edit] Luxeon
Luxeon is the trade name for high power LEDs that dissipate 1 watt or more. Models include Luxeon I, Luxeon III, Luxeon V, Luxeon K2, Luxeon Star, and Luxeon Rebel. Luxeon LEDs produce powerful light, and are a popular choice among flashlight manufacturers. [1]. They are available in many colors, including white.
Manufacturers who use Luxeon LEDs and their customers are subject to what has become known as the ‘Luxeon Lotto’ [2]. LEDs from this manufacturer rated as white often have tints of yellow, brown, orange, green, blue, purple, pink, etc.
Competitors to Luxeon include Cree and Nichia.
