Philibert Francois Rouxel de Blanchelande

Philippe (or Philibert) François Rouxel, viscount de Blanchelande [1] (born in Dijon February 21, 1735 - guillotined in Paris April 15, 1793) was the french Governor of Saint-Domingue at the rise of the Haitian Revolution.
In 1781, Maréchal de camp Blanchelande took Trinidad to the British and was Governor from 1781 to 1784.
He succeded, Gouvernor General of Saint-Domingue, de Peinier,[2] at the end of 1790. In 1791, began what was named « la révolte des Noirs » (the revolt of the Blacks). Rouxel took head of the Royal forces to fight the revolt and his leader Dutty Boukman.
In 1792, he is replaced as Governor by d'Esparbès (who will be himself replaced by Galbaud du Fort after June 1793). Convinced of counter-revolutionary actions and treason, Blanchelande was condemned to the guillotine by a revolutionnary Court in April 11, 1793 and executed April 15.
