Philip Brown (born May 30, 1959 in South Shields) is a former English footballer, and the current first team manager of Hull City.
As a player Brown was a dependable full back for many years - most of which was spent at Bolton Wanderers. He also played for Hartlepool, Halifax Town and finally Blackpool, where he brought his playing career to a close in 1996.
Brown returned to Bolton and spent several years as the assistant manager to Colin Todd and Sam Allardyce, briefly serving as caretaker manager between the two reigns. He then had an unsuccessful spell as Manager of Derby County, having succeeded George Burley in June 2005. He was sacked in January 2006.
Brown was appointed as first-team coach for Hull City on October 27, 2006 under Phil Parkinson, and took over as joint caretaker manager alongside Colin Murphy on December 4, 2006 after Parkinson's sacking. Following three wins and a draw in the six matches he took charge as caretaker, he was appointed as the permanent manager at the club on January 4, 2007.
Brown will 'bare all' in the April edition Hull City's magazine, which he promised he would do if the fans could raise more than £250k in the Coca-Cola buy a player promotion, which they subsequently did.
