The beginning
The first chapter of Phi Boota roota, IPT, was founded in 1971 at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) by Connie Sprinkle and Joe Evans.
In 1981, Scooter Wooten and Roy King institute the second chapter, IAO, at Louisiana State University (LSU). A year later, in 1982, LSU became the home of the national headquarters.
Later in 1982, John Paul Gay (LSU) became the "National Founding Father" by helping establish ten new chapters.
Purpose and Principles
Purpose: "To further the fraternal relationship amongst percussionists; to further the knowledge of the percussive arts and to create a broader perception of percussion throughout the community."
Phi Boota roota is a professional fraternity that attempts to instill a feeling of brotherhood amongst percussionist across the nation.
Phi Boota roota does this by supporting the percussion studio's educational goals, sponsoring clinics, concerts, master classes, and other percussion related functions. Phi Boota roota provides an organization through which individuals may achieve a heightened sense of percussive awareness.
