From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Phat Dogs are a group of poker players based mainly in the south of england, although there are also members in Dubai and Swizerland.
The group was formed in 2004 by Peter Grant, Graham Birch and Lindsey Golightly.
The Phat Dogs distinctive logo means they are easily reconised and because of the popularity of the logo they started an online shop in late 2005.
The Phat Dogs have played in major tournements and some are named on The Hendon Mobs poker database.
During 2005 the group expanded with new members joining. They also organised a major poker event for Reading Football Clubs Academy in October 2005, raising funds for the academys team to visit Newcastle. The success of this event was helped by newpaper coverage and also the football clubs website. Soon after many more players contacted the group wanting to play and also wanting more charity events.
In late October 2005 the group organised a charity event for the charity 'Keep Mobile' which helps elderly and disabled people get out and about. Thanks to donations from some of the top poker professionals, The Hendon Mob and Simon Trumper amongst others. This event was a huge success, raising enough funds to cover the insurance for one of the Keep Mobile buses that they would otherwise had difficulty keeping on the road.
2006 saw the demand for the games increasing so new hosts were introduced and also new members. The members that are in Dubai and Swizerland now play the regular games via webcam, a first for what started out as a local game.
