Pharos University in Alexandria

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pharos University in Alexandria (PUA) جامعة فاروس بالإسكندرية (http://www.pua.edu.eg) is founded as a non-governmental and non-profitable university, with an eye towards one major concern: academic excellence.

In Alexandria, the second city in Egypt, there is only one university, Alexandria University, a state university serving a wide geographical range of increasing population including three major governorates.

Consequently, the need for Pharos University, as the only private university in Alexandria, is inevitable . It will relieve the educational burden imposed on Alexandria University, and meet the needs of the people in the other governorates.

Pharos University obtained the license from the Egyptian supreme council of private universities to operate in the academic year of 2006 / 2007. It includes seven faculties: faculty of dentistry, faculty of pharmacy, faculty of engineering, faculty of languages and translation, faculty of business administration, faculty of legal studies, and faculty of tourism and hospitality management.

The name "pharos" refers to the lighthouse built in Alexandria during the Greco-Egyptian period. One of the seven wonders of the world, the lighthouse has long been an emblem of the cosmopolitan city.
