[edit] Annexation
As of September, 2006 most of Pfafftown east of Transou Road is part of the city of Winston-Salem. North Carolina law currently has little restrictions on cities annexing territories, so many Pfafftown citizens were unable to successfully resist annexation; many lawsuits took place between the actual annexation in 2004 and the submission in 2006.
Many citizens in the nearby community of Midway were facing a similar situation with annexation and thus proceeded with efforts to incorporate as a seperate municipality, similar to what many Pfafftown citizens tried years prior to the 2004 annexation. Using Pfafftown as an example of a failure, the Midway Incorporation Committee suceeded in gaining permanent autonomy from nearby Winston-Salem with the sucessful incorpoation of the town of Midway in June 2006.
