[edit] User:Jjmath

Could you take a look at this user's recent "contributions"? He added nonsense to Line of succession to the British Throne and then blanked the Wikipedia:Vandalism page. I think that warnings don't work any longer. Thanks. Noel S McFerran 14:43, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for the slow reply. Seems to have stopped again for now, but if returns report to WP:AIV (for vandalism) or WP:PAIN (for personal attacks). Petros471 18:38, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you for your positive words

More at User talk:Blue Tie.

I appreciate your positive responses. I believe that Andyh is a good warrior for Wikipedia. I value his help on the project. If he is nominated again in a few months, he will have a bit more experience under his belt and I suspect that with that experience he will handle situations better. I definitely detect a politeness and a trend toward continual self improvement. So I will probably support in the future. But one question: in your experience how much does being an administrator help a person combat vandalism the way that Andeh does? I understand blocking, but are there tools to find it and fix it faster that are only available to admins? --Blue Tie 11:25, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Whilst this RFA will probably reach no consensus I would certainly hope that he incorporates the comments from this one, and have a successful one in a few months. The extra tools available to help fight vandalism are mainly blocking (to save reporting to AIV, it's obviously a lot quicker to be able to do yourself, and help with reports posted there by others), rollback (it's a lot faster and easier than even the best scripts out there, and as an added bonus, when you are viewing a vandals contribs it makes it easy to see which edits have already been reverted- this helps catch vandalism to little watched articles done by the same vandal), page protection (including semi-protection, to stop an article being edited by IPs- this is useful if a particular article is under heavy attack by a dynamic IP/multiple unregistered users). The skills involved are very similar though, and tools like vandalproof, vandalfighter, the IRC channel, lupin's tools (all those things help with RC patrol) are available for non-admins as well as admins, it’s just quicker to act on them as an admin. [edit] Re: Comment on RfA

Have you read the comments made by those opposing (including BigDT and Joturner's)? Petros471 14:35, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

I was wondering the exact same thing. -- joturner 14:38, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:Burgwerworldz

I am having a problem with this user. He is repeatedly deleting my valid info on Job (professional wrestling) and without explanation. I attempted to resolve the issue on his talk page and he just deletes that too. WillC 22:25, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, shouting (all caps) isn't the best way to communicate. On the other hand neither is removing comments off the talk page. I'm supposed to be on semi-wikibreak so I don't really want to get too involved in this. I've left a message on User talk:Burgwerworldz. See dispute resolution if that doesn't work. [edit] Stress

Perfectly percolated Esperanza blend coffee, just for you!
Perfectly percolated Esperanza blend coffee, just for you!

Hello Petros. I am sorry to see you stressed. A month ago I banned a user for extensive racism and he kept on returning with sockpuppets and even posted an RfC against me, as well as making defamatory and untrue allegations on teh mailing list in front of a few arbitrators and admins. Secondly I can understand that some people on RfA simply vote and do so rather obstinately, so I find that vigorous rebuttal is OK - it will make some difference. Have a good break sir,Blnguyen | rant-line 23:54, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Wow, you're stressed too? Gee, we both close the last, contentious AfDs of the day, and we're both stressed. Coincidence? Anyways, thanks for the note, buddy, I appreciate it. I can normally handle the stress, but when people hang me out to try and slag my abilities as an AfD closer, that's when I start to feel like maybe the stress isn't worth anything I'd get out of it. Maybe we can both use a little break from closing contentious AfDs. Me, I'm going to take a very long (perhaps indefinite) break from closing contentious AfDs. I'll put my efforts where a mistake means someone simply reverts me, leaves me a nasty note on my talk page, or vandalises my user page. I'd rather have that than have several people question my competence as an AfD closer. Welcome to the twelve step program. :-) --Deathphoenix ʕ 01:51, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey Petros, I'm sorry to hear about your stress! I hope that things clear up soon (and I'm sure they will!), and that your break is nice and relaxing. If you do stop by sometime, have some nice Esperanza coffee to help de-stress yourself. -- Natalya 03:15, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi there Petros. Sorry to see that you're under stress, and I certainly hope that the wikibreak helps a bit! You're a great user, and it's a shame to see you upset. Here's hoping that you feel better soon. Thε Halo Θ 22:38, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi. Sorry about all the stress, Wikipedia's pretty full on at the moment, and it never looks easy to be an admin. Hope you feel better when you come back! Sergeant Snopake 18:01, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Andypandy.UK's RfA

For what it's worth, I'm a bit upset about Andy's RfA and the way it's playing out-- please see my supporting comment #60 and my response (especially the links) to opposing comment #15. I think Blue Tie has been very disingenuous in his characterization of what happened; I'd hate to see this scuttle the RfA. --A. B. 08:18, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your your support + research/comments. Unfortunately people rarely seem to return to an RFA after the first couple of days to read comments and change votes, so the RFA is almost certainly doomed to failure unless several people remove their oppose and/or a lot more support. The way the !voting system on RFA works means that one oppose cancels out 4 or 5 supports. Petros471 08:38, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
I do not think I was disingenuous. I always try to be honest. I feel badly for any errors I made, but I do my best. Anyway, I have learned in life not to make promises that may depend upon the actions of others, so I do not necessarily promise, but I suspect I will support Andypandy.UK on the next go around. In the meantime, I apologize if I offended you. I thought I had done right, but apparently not. However, I would have made the same point and voted the same way, even if I did it in some other fashion that was more acceptable. --Blue Tie 04:08, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: RfA Thanks!

You've got a couple of admins now who've promised to help out with RFI :) I'm sure you'll be due for admin fairly soon- I'd be delighted to nominate you after you've got a little more experience (as people will probably oppose now based on months). Let me know when you want me to take a more serious look at your contributions. Thanks, Petros471 20:55, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Mind if I redeem this offer? :-) --ZsinjTalk 16:14, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

At your convenience, of course. Enjoy your break! --ZsinjTalk
I was just (yesterday or the day before) thinking about that. The problem is you've rather caught me at a bad time to ask for a nom (taking a look at my latest attempt, currently live on WP:RFA should give you an idea why...) I'm planning to be on 'process wikibreak' until I go off on holiday (just under two weeks time), and then I'm properly off for two weeks. After that I should be ready to start considering noms again- is that ok? (Of course, feel free to do a self nom or ask someone else to nominate you in the mean time, just let me know so I don't duplicate effort). Cheers, Petros471 17:07, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
Haha, I was simply redeeming the offer to review my contributions and give some constructive critisizm! What you decide to do with the result of your "more serious look" is up to you to do on your own time. ;-) --ZsinjTalk 17:39, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
Same thing- of course I'd nominate you if I liked what I saw while taking a 'more serious look', and I wouldn't nominate without doing one; so if you prefer delete 'nom' replace with 'contributions review' in my above message and it still stands :) Petros471 17:44, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
I understand. I hope you find peace in your semi-wikibreak. --ZsinjTalk 17:49, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks :) Petros471 11:28, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of film clichés by genre on deletion review

An editor has asked for a deletion review of List of film clichés by genre. Since you closed the deletion discussion for (or speedy-deleted) this article, your reasons on how or why you did so will be greatly appreciated in the above review. Hey buddy, I don't think this will be a source of stress, but just to let you know of this review. --Deathphoenix ʕ 18:56, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know (and doing the same for so many other DRV's). Is it expected for me to comment on it or is it ok to just let it flow it's natural course? (amazingly enough this is my first DRV), because I'm supposed to be on a process wikibreak, and DRV is about as deep process as I can think of... Petros471 19:18, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
PS, was going to mention this edit made me smile :) Petros471 19:19, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
hahaha... I'm glad you liked my edit. As for whether you're supposed to comment, no you're don't have to if you don't want to. Notifying other people came as a result of an old review of my AfD closure that was carried out without my being notified of it. I clearly made a mistake in that AfD, and I felt pretty offended that I wasn't notified of it before (or during) the DRV. I created a template and updated the instructions for DRV nominators to also notify the admin, but a few weeks or months later, when another admin also complained about not being notified, I decided to update the instructions and to personally notify admins when relevant. It's just a courtesy so you don't feel like a review was being carried out behind your back. You know about it, and that's good enough for me. You don't have to make any comments if you don't want to. --Deathphoenix ʕ 19:26, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
I kind of assumed you needed to make that correction ;) Ok, yes it is good to be told it is happening (especially with the pages being transcluded on DRV now there's no way it would have shown up on my watchlist, and I don't make a habit of regularly visiting DRV), but I'm not massively bothered if it gets a re-list, and I think my reasons for deleting are fairly obvious (if anyone asks, it's basically what you said). Cheers, Petros471 19:43, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, that's a problem with transcluding daily logs. I tried putting the daily logs on my watchlist, but it was too much trouble. Now I just regularly check it out, more to find admins that need to be notified than anything else. --Deathphoenix ʕ 19:48, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cross-namespace redirects

You are receiving this message because you previously voiced your opinion on a Redirects for deletion of a cross-namespace redirect that was originally deleted but then went to Deletion review and was then relisted at RFD. This is a courtesy notice so you are aware that the issue is being discussed again and is not an endorsement of any position. --Cyde↔Weys 13:24, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:Bingolice vandalizing again

User:Bingolice (who registered another account (User:Graal unixmad) to avoid being blocked for what he did on this account, has agian been vandalizing the GraalOnline article.

He was warned not to violate the 3RR policy, and so now this account Bingolice is doing the reverts. Regardless of if they are the same or not (which they are) User:Bingolice has been warned that if he vandalizes again he will be blocked. User:Graal unixmad should also be blocked for his vandalizm of this article.

[edit] admin coaching

Hello Petros. Titoxd said that you're doing most of the admin coaching organizing. I wanted to let you know that I'm ready for a new coachee. HighwayCello has decided he doesn't want to run for RfA, and my other coachee, Firsfron, is running for RfA right now. I'm confident he will succeed. So feel free to assign me a new person when you're ready. Cheers. :) --Fang Aili talk 12:41, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User WIN

He's still at it, adding diatribes to Talk:Indo-Aryan migration calling scholars racists, citing no published sources, adding no content to the article, and generally treating the place like his soapbox. What does it take to get this guy blocked? I've been an editor here for over three years now, and have improved many articles, but lately I've had to concentrate so much on his nonsense that I'm not longer getting anything done here. If he stays, I leave. CRCulver 09:13, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Yes.

I am still interested in coaching. --Cheers, Folajimi (leave a note) 22:42, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA and your vote

Hello again Petros,
Thanks for participating in my RFA! Ultimately, no consensus was reached, but I still appreciate the fact that you showed up to add in your two cents. That was actually the first non-mailing list email I had ever recieved regarding something on wikipedia, so I was quite flattered and surprised. You can feel free to talk to me about it or add some advice on my improvement page.

Sincerely, The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me)

[edit] You've got a Thank you card!

(Yet Another Congratulations)
Thanks for your thank you card, I can't believe you made a custom one of those for everyone (actually knowing you I guess I can!)
Anyway, welcome to the admin ranks, you are truly someone I look forward to working with :) Petros471 15:05, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A smile for you...

Michael 08:39, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks :) Good too see nice messages on my return, not people yelling at me ;) Petros471 14:55, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion request

Hello, you deleted Kite Pilot. Correspondingly, please also delete Kite Pilot EP, which I found via Special:Random. Thankyou. 128.250.37.103 13:15, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Looks like I've been beaten to it :) Petros471 14:54, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome back

Hi Petros, welcome back. We've missed you. Just as an FYI, I completed a review of Guinnog who I think is ready for an RfA. Ironically I finished it about 5 minutes before you returned from WikiBreak.

Anyway, truly welcome back. I hope you are refreshed and ready to wade back in. Best, Gwernol 15:01, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Replying here as I get the sneaky feeling you've already watchlisted this page ;-)
Thanks :) That made a good read (I think I may even recognise the format from somewhere...), looks like another good admin candidate, I'll be happy to support. Yeah, was rather wet holiday in the Lake district (what do you expect!) so spent plenty of time reading/doing not very much. I almost feel ready for going back to work tomorrow (argh, no not really!) Petros471 15:20, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
Now what would give you the impression I had your talk page watchlisted? Oops, outed myself there :-) Sorry about stealing your nomination format, but its very helpful in making sure all the bases are covered. Glad you got time in the Lake District - its one of my favorite parts of the UK. I've enjoyed many happy times in Wasdale, Helvellyn and Scafell. Sorry to hear about the rain - sounds about par for the course though. I envy you the chance to relax. I'm doing a lot of traveling, back and foreward to the West Coast a lot and next week I'm in Beijing. It sounds very glamorous but I'm not looking forward to the 19 hour flight... Glad to have you back, Gwernol 15:28, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
Hey, no need for apologies, you know what they say about imitation and flattery :) Yeah, I'm glad not to be flying at the moment (not so much because I'd be scarred, but more all the hassle of the new security, and the boredom of not being able to take books etc onboard!) Petros471 15:36, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lxrun deletion

You deleted the lxrun article at the same time as I posted the hangon template and was busy writing a reply on it's talk page. Could you reinstate the page so that people will have the time to read my objections?

Sander Marechal 11:50, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Your arguments on the talk page seem to be more about why there should be an article with that title, not why the one I deleted should stay. How about re-creating a short stub with the more factual information you provided? Petros471 11:54, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Point taken :-) I don't think I know enough about lxrun to do so myself, but Groklaw is full of people with more knowledge that I have, so let's hope one of them does. Sander Marechal 12:21, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.
Signed...

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

[edit] Admin coaching update

Please put all your replies to my admin coaching update message here with your username as a third level header. It will help keep everything together and help me not miss anyone. Thanks! Petros471 22:23, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kim Bruning

Tango tango passed with flying colors, so sure, I can coach another admin.

As a separate issue, has anyone attempted to coach an entire group of admins at once yet? Hmm, well, I could at least do an admin 101 class on irc some weekend, if you like. People on rfa often turn out not to know the basics, which is somewhat scary.

Kim Bruning 22:11, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

OK, I'll try and sort out assignments tomorrow once I've got a few more replies. No, that hasn't yet been tried. Good idea though- any ideas as to how to organise it? I think the best thing might be to ask everyone to join a special IRC session at a particular time/place as advertised somewhere public (i.e. more visible than the admin coaching subpage). Petros471 22:20, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mysekurity

Sure. While I've got nothing against the program, maybe someone could coach me in how I'm supposed to do this? Most of my coachees don't really need help--or at least don't ask for it. But sure, assign one anyway, and I'll make sure to keep up with this one. -Mysekurity 22:58, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Your new trainee is Brazucs and your fellow coach is JzG. Once coaching has started please move the relevant entry in the coaching box up to 'Active'. As for how to do coaching: well different coaches have different methods. At any time of course your trainee can come to you for help with something, but you can also take a look at their contributions and see where they need to improve and/or ask them some questions/example scenarios. If your trainee is not that active you can always be assigned another one in addition. Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers, Petros471 16:04, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Go for it. -Mysekurity 22:30, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chacor/NSLE

I officially withdrew from Esperanza in June, so please delist me. Cheers. :) Chacor 02:44, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Academic Challenger

Quite ironic that just a few months ago you were being coached as part of the admin coaching program and now you are in charge of it! As far as I know I haven't been assigned a new trainee since your own coaching finished, and I think I would be able to take another one. Thanks. Academic Challenger 06:30, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Well you were assigned SonicAD - IIRC by Titoxd, who forgot to tell you, which I did. You then showed up at User talk:SonicAD, and asked if he had any questions. I guess you never got a reply from that, and as his contributions show that's he's not particular active I'll archive it, and give you a new trainee. I'm sure he can always come with any questions at a later date if he wants :) Petros471 09:25, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Titoxd

So, how's the coordinator? :D I don't remember if I told you about the sandboxes I used to notify users (User:Titoxd/Sandbox A User:Titoxd/Sandbox C User:Titoxd/Sandbox E), so if you want to borrow them, feel free to do so. By the way, mind assigning someone to me? Titoxd(?!?) 04:54, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey! Thanks for signing up in Wikipedia:Esperanza's Admin coaching program. Since you've volunteered to help train a user, I've assigned Quentin Smith to you and to your partner, Jacoplane. Please make sure to be kind and helpful to your coachee. If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks again! Petros471 17:05, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I haven't received any contact from my coachee since you assigned him to me. What do you think we should do? Titoxd(?!?) 04:56, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
He does look rather inactive at the moment... You happy to take on a new trainee and possibly end up with two if Quentin returns? Petros471 11:08, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of Kea audio

sorry not sure where I am supposed to write this. I wanted to write an article and when I pressed the save button (ok sorry before I was finished) and then tried to edit it again I got a message that it was deleted by you. I would like to know why. This is the article:

"Kea Audio is a privately owned company located in Nelson New Zealand. It was founded in 1993 and specializes in high quality drivers incorporating new cone technology and design loudspeakers. In 1995 a new cone material was developed called "Polyepicell". This is a polymer hardfoam and has combines qualities like extreme stiffness and light weight. The enormous stiffness of Polyepicell eliminates bending and the specially designed damping technology avoids the feared cone breakups. In 1998 a new tweeter was developed where only an outer ring emits soundwaves. This reduces conebreak ups and improves the overall frequency response as well as a wider directivity. The founder Dipl.-Ing. J.Lang is a member of the audio engineering society and wrote two papers in 1989 on loudspeakers and loudspeaker cabinets at the University of Berlin which are available at the Institute of Acoustics' library."

I found other articles on Bose, Cabasse and Polk and I cannot see why this should be any different. I understand that advertising is not welcome, but why list all the big companies and the small ones are not allowed to be named? I do not think that only big companies are important, on the contrary a lot of small companies made a lot of important developements and inventions and the big ones usually get the patents sorted out and make millions. So it is my opinion that either all companies may be listed or no company at all. Kind regards, Johnedoe. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Johnedoe (talkcontribs) .

When I deleted the article it read "Kea Audio is a privately owned company located in Nelson New Zealand. It specializes in high quality drivers incorporating new cone technology and design loudspeakers". On Wikipedia there are notability requirements, meaning that not every article is kept (that version certainly didn't meet them). If you think the new content that you were about to add means the article will meet the notability guidelines of WP:CORP then I'll hapily undelete the article (note that it still may be sent to articles for deletion. Petros471 10:49, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Johnedoe 11:02, 19 August 2006 (UTC) thanks. Sorry, does that mean I should add the above text in "" again?

I've restored the article, added the text you put on my talk page, and nominated for deletion via WP:AFD. You are welcome to continue editing the article to improve it, add information (especially information that is verifiable and citing third party sources). You are also welcome to contribute to the debate here. Petros471 11:46, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

  • WAN, World Artist Network on MySpace
I deleted this under criteria for speedy deletion A7, "An article about a real person, group of people, band, or club that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject". Your article failed to do this.
For more information on what can qualify as a notable website, you might find the WP:WEB guideline useful. For more help on contributing to Wikipedia, see some of the links in my welcome above. Feel free to ask me any further questions on my talk page. Petros471 20:06, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

I did respond within minutes to assert its importance and I edited the page. The writing was deleted so I don't have a copy of what I responded with.

This is the largest group on MySpace, which is one of the world's most heavily trafficked websites. That is as culturally significant, if not more, than some of the articles on Wikipedia.

Thank you for your consideration. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Baltimoretom (talkcontribs) .

Hmmm, I suppose there might be enough claim on notability (the number of members) to deserve an WP:AFD discussion. Very well, I've undeleted and sent it to afd, where the Wikipedia community can decide. Whilst you are welcome to add your thoughts to that discussion I strongly suggest you don't ask the MySpace community to come and 'vote' on the AFD. AFD is not a vote, and doing so is not looked upon positively. You will strengthen your case on the AFD discussion if you can present (and put into the article) verifiable third party sources about the group, demonstrating why it is important. You will also need to pay attention to no original research, and neutral point of view. Petros471 21:30, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/WAN, World Artist Network on MySpace

I didn't realise you were an admin until now, but I've already filed a WP:RFPP on this. Feel free to withdraw/decline my request if you wish, but having been on many WP:WEB AFDs before, the WP:SPA flood on this one will probably dwarf anything I've ever seen before if left unchecked. --  Netsnipe  (Talk)  21:44, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

I was just edit-conflicted replying to that request for protection, I was going to decline it for the same reason- i.e. let's wait till any flood actually starts (though I'm totally aware of the danger of one, hence the pre-emptive warning template, and the message I left on the author's talk page). Petros471 21:52, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Van3.jpg

If you are hesitant to delete the earlier image uploaded under this name (which is orphaned-fair-use-replaced), you can delete the current image (as it is noncommercial uploaded after 19 May 2005 == speedy delete), revert to the earlier version, wait for 7 days and then delete that version too. -- Paddu 08:52, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

The reason I didn't delete that picture was because of the information presented in your User:Paddu/wowturkey.com photo template, which included phases like "Please use our photographs as you like!" etc. It's all deleted now anyway (I didn't realise that's what you wanted). Petros471 10:39, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Windsor, Ontario building AfDs

I am a bit curious how 3-1 in favor of delete is no consensus. Indrian 04:22, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

In closing as I did, I basically left it as an editorial decision. If the content is deemed notable enough to get some sort of mention in the main article, then not deleting the individual building ones allows that to happen without having to re-write them. However if the content is not notable enough then the redirect is effectively the same as deleting the article anyway (and I'd certainly resist anyone trying to revert the building articles away from a re-direct). I could have closed those as delete, but I think my closure was still within the area of administrator discretion (remembering that afd is not a vote). Petros471 09:13, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
AfD is not a vote and your arguements for redirecting are sound, but your methodology, to me, is flawed. In your closing remarks you stated there was nearly a consensus to delete, which does not appear to support the facts and casts doubt on your use of administrative discretion in my opinion, at least on these specific closings. I known some admins find consensus at 51%, others at 66%, and I suppose there are probably one or two that set the bar even higher, but 75% sure as heck seems like consensus to me. I agree that a redirect is essentially a delete in this case anyway and have no intention of challenging the closing, but I am still curious how you did not find consensus in those debates. Indrian 16:34, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah you're right, the 75% figure is pretty high for afd consensus (I usually use around the 66% if I'm even attempting to vote count). Basically that exact wording was copy+pasted as one of my standard closing statements, I could have probably done a better one for those (at least for the ones that actually were 75%, IIRC one of them had two keeps and therefore lower than that overall) and said something like 'basically consensus to delete but still redirecting because...'. Petros471 23:23, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
I can live with that. Thank you for clarifying. Indrian 23:30, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Priority Club Rewards (STOP DELETING THIS PAGE...PLEASE)

I added a page for Priority Club Rewards as a part of InterContinental Hotels Group. For some reason, it keeps getting deleted eventhough I provide the information requested once I see the speedy deletion message.

Please let me know what I need to do in order to have this page appear & not get deleted again.

Thank you —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Meyersl (talkcontribs) .

That article keeps getting deleted (without any further discussion) because it had already been deleted as a result of a articles for deletion discussion. Below is a copy of my reply on the articles talk page (I've copied it here because that talk page will soon be deleted as an orphaned talk page. You are welcome to continue discussion of this on my talk page. Petros471 23:16, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
The page was deleted in accordance with the community decision at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Priority Club Rewards. If you wish to appeal this, see deletion review, however I suggest this will not be successful. The alternative is to redirect this page to the main hotel article and add a section to that article on the reward scheme. Please make sure that it is written from a neutral point of view and you cite (but don't copy) sources. Petros471 14:58, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mambo cover

Hello Petros. I want to complain about the unknown user with this ip: 195.93.21.8

He changes pics even if i have warned him not to do.--Chronisgr 11:13, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Is there anything better about one picture over the other? This looks like a content dispute, so try and follow the advice given at dispute resolution, and make use of the article talk page to see what other editors think. If you can show me that there is clear consensus for a particular version, I'll be happy to sprotect the article for a while, otherwise you'll have to use the talk pages to try and reach consensus. Petros471 12:19, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Userfy the article Odhiambo Siangla

I know you can do it. That is why I request it. Userfy the article Jamarenyo wrote on Odhiambo Siangla. The article was deleted on August 21st. I am the subject of the article. I uploaded an image requested to improve the article before the debate that concluded with deletion.

The debate of the proposed deletion was quite enlightening. I agree Jamarenyo should have presented a verified evidence for the awards he listed behind my name, a position taken Nesbit and suggested by others as well.

What I am not sure of is the suggestion that others had little or no interest in my artwork other than those who would be interested in deleting Jamarenyo's entry about the artist. Smerdi of Tlon took the position, however, because I uploaded the image. Copyrights and access to equipments played a role. Not the interest alone. In fact, the uploaded image was sent to me from Rome, Italy where the collector, Dr. Mercia Gracy resides with the piece I called Liquid Fire.

Another thing I do not know is the extent to which the article can be userfied.

Crossmr was rightly concerned about those few awards some of which were scholarships and fellowships that should have been verified. If one takes the position of South Philly that the article could be strengthened, but now it is deleted, then I only would like to request what you can do. Userfy the article.

Siangla, August 23, 2006.

Yes, you are correct- I can userfy the article for you. However I'm going to have to ask you to register an account first, as I can only move the article into your userspace. At the moment you are editing from an IP 151.197.5.78 (talk contribs). Just go to Special:Userlogin and you can register from there. Once you have done that, let me know what your account is and I'll restore the article into your userspace. Petros471 22:51, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mr. Lefty RfA Review

Hey, Petros. I was wondering if you could give me one of your famous RfA reviews, if you're not too busy. Get back to me if there's anything you need me to do for it, or if you can't, or anything like that. Thanks! --Mr. Lefty Talk to me! 23:24, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Sure, I've got a couple of RFA related things in the works, so can't promise a timescale, but I'll do you one. Petros471 23:29, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Graph - Image:En-admin-vs-article-growth.png

The graph looks great (although I'd suggest removing the visible tick marks from the line). I noticed you left an open column for users in the Excel spreadsheet; that, in my opinion, is probably even more useful than the number of articles. This table would be useful if you decide to add a users column. You could probably use the total (which is not really the total) or >5 columns, unless you wanted me to incorporate the user data. -- tariqabjotu 14:48, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, though you did most of the grunt work (entering the data). I've done a massive amount of Excel graph work at uni and my last job so I though I would be able to do something like that :) I agree, I'd like to see that graph with user data. If you fancy doing that go ahead- I'm supposed to be busy now (doing work in real world). Let me know if you want me to do it though. I'd recommend using whatever data includes the greatest number of users because often it is the few edit users that cause the most work for admins, so no point only counting the more experienced users. Petros471 14:56, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Also, I assume the blip in number of inactive admins last year is a result of a change in record keeping practices? --Guinnog 14:52, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I'm not sure of the technicalities behind that (NoSeptember would probably know better than me) but it wasn't a sudden rush of people all putting down the mop at once! Petros471 15:01, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My signature

Although I hadn't really noticed it myself, you're probably right about it breaking lines so I've changed the sub to a small, thereby retaining the effect and being nicer for users at only four extra characters. As for templating it, I do this because it is the only way I an make modifications to the date part; User:^demon showed me how to do it. Is everything okay with this? Hope your preperations are going well, for university and for me! —Xyrael / 18:26, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] More talkpage spam ;)

It's possible I won't have IRC for a bit so we're reduced to speaking over talkpages in the usual fashion. I noticed that you did quite a bit of work last night on the statement, and from your edit summary it appears to be complete and I think it looks really good. It complements the questions really nicely. I did a little copyediting and linking and I hope you're okay with that but please feel free to revert. Otherwise, perhaps we are ready and in that case we might be able start earlier. It would be better for me because if we start on the first of September I have several days of school which (obviously) makes it a lot harder for me to answer questions (although with the new blocking code it's significantly easier but the school blocks several key pages such as RfA). I understand you may not have Internet access towards the end of the week but I'd really rather get it done during my holiday so that I'm not too busy. Does this sound okay to you? I'll be around all day for a bar of death :) —Xyrael / 07:34, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

OK, I can go ahead sooner if you want- it's your thing afterall :) I've created Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Xyrael- I'll let you copy your answers in. Petros471 11:10, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Admin Coaching

Thanks very much for the reminder. Yes, I am still interested. I have been dedicating increasing periods of time to wikipedia but will not really be able to concentrate on this till next month. I put together a list of subjects I needed some help with (some of them I worked around them on my own, so no help needed on those bits, but still have a few queries). I am currently on vacation but will take up your offer in a few days. Thanks again and best regards, E Asterion u talking to me? 10:57, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Certainly. Prodego talk 12:31, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Will there be another coach? I notice there are two coaches in most, but not all cases. Is that what we are waiting for? Prodego talk 15:09, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Ah, I know Mysekurity, sounds good. One thing is my schedule for the next two weeks is a little unpredictable, I am not sure how active I will be. But if Asterion is on vacation that should work out perfectly. Thanks, Prodego talk 17:51, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Admin coaching

Hi, Petros. Banes and I have yet to hear from our current trainee as to whether he's still interested in admin coaching, and a new school term is about to start for me, so would it be okay for to hold off on taking a new trainee for now? Thanks, Sango123 20:20, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Sure, thanks! :) Sango123 20:36, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi there, just echoeing the above. Things are getting busier and busier in meatspace at the moment so I'd also rather not take on a new one just yet. What Sango said. :) -- Banes 12:57, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re 68.45.138.191's edit to The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

I am probably going to give 68.45.138.191 (talkcontribsWHOISRDNSRBLsblock userblock log) a long block for continued sneaky vandalism, but as a final check could you please explain why this edit was sneaky vandalism (i.e. in what way was it wrong, with source if applicable). Thanks for your help. Petros471 21:55, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

The closing date cannot possibly be earlier than the opening date, so adding "Closing Date (Theme): October 31, 1939" after "Grand opening: July 22, 1994" was clearly incorrect. Placing "Closing Date (Theme): October 31, 1939" in a section otherwise concerned with actual facts about the construction of the ride appears to state "October 31, 1939" as an actual closing date, rather than a thematic element. John254 07:38, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
That might be a bad edit, but I'm not totally sure it was bad faith (as that date was the theme date of the ride, right?). I'll keep an eye on this IP, but won't block for now (especially as it has stopped for now). Petros471 16:16, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tiffany Anastasia Lowe

You did fine there, I wish more people would go ahead and merge things like that rather than clog afd up with close calls that result in me having to add loads of merge tags everywhere! Thanks :) Petros471 18:35, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

I should probably add that it is better to do this towards the end of the afd debate, as you did, in case a clear consensus to delete forms. If that is the case then best not to merge to allow the article to be deleted. Petros471 18:37, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply, was glad to get some feedback, since I was kinda in uncharted waters there. Glad I could help, even in a small way. Cheers. Alcuin 18:40, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you (AFD)

Thanks for re-directing the "responses" page. It isn't quite a deletion, but it's an adequate solution. John Smith's 21:45, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your message. Reading and deciding how to close an afd that long took some time, so glad it was a satisfactory outcome! Petros471 21:48, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
I'm glad it lasted longer, because a merger would have been very diffult, especially as there were a few obstinant types that would have tried to claim things weren't being merged properly. John Smith's 21:59, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello! Back in May you signed up for admin coaching. You're now at the top of the request list. Do you still want it? Petros471 22:04, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes, admin coaching would still be useful. Thank you for asking. MyNameIsNotBob 23:06, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
OK, your coaches are Lar and myself. We usually ask you to set up an admin coaching subpage (e.g. User:MyNameIsNotBob/Admin coaching), where we can talk about what you want out of the program, what areas you need advice in etc. Petros471 08:53, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
I'm happy with the subpage idea. Sounds good. What do you want me to put on there? A starting point would be good. Thanks. MyNameIsNotBob 09:18, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
I've taken the liberty of creating that page (with it's associated talk page), mostly by recycling elements from previous admin coaching sessions I've helped with. See you over there! Petros471 09:43, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks again. I have read through the stuff there and made the start I think you wanted. Feel free to ask me any questions about anything I have said. Do I need to leave anything over at Lar's page? MyNameIsNotBob 10:13, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Your signature

I've just left Netsnipe a similar message, so to be fair I'd better send you the same one :)

Could you consider shortening and 'de-emphasising' your signature? I find using a background colour distracting and it gives your signature more prominence on talk pages (as we should all be equal, that's not a good thing!), and its length fills up diff/edit windows making it harder to find and edit comments. I hope you don't mind me pointing this out, it certainly isn't that big a deal :) WP:SIG is the guideline on the matter. Petros471 21:49, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

I have shortened it to below 200 characters and removed the unecessary (talk), as it links directly to my Talk page in the first place. (aeropagitica) 22:45, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dykes on bikes

i apologize for the inclusion of 'Dykes on bikes' on redvers subpage. However i thought it would appeal to redvers to have it on his subpage bearing in mind his sexuality.
