[edit] Dead links

I'm sure your removal of a dead link at Spousal rape was entirely well-intentioned, but references should not be removed just because the link is dead. In this case, a substitute link was easily found through the Web Archive. There is a good discussion of this at Wikipedia_talk:Cite_sources#Sources_that_are_defunct_external_sites; that talk page gets archived pretty often, though, I probably should find it a more permanent home. -- Jmabel | Talk 02:39, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your user page

Hello.
Seemingly you are revealing your name, email, professional skills and detailed achievements, past and present employer, date of birth, and place of schooling. Some cursory googling makes the veracity of this likely. Am I right assuming that your wife's and son's identity could be determined by searching and cross checking the net? Is it correct to infer by the link provided, that you have had the wish to do your family harm - at least at some point in the past and in a troubled state of mind? --tickle me 03:22, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gape shot

An editor has nominated the article Gape shot for deletion, under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the nomination (also see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on why the topic of the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome: participate in the discussion by editing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gape shot. Add four tildes like this ˜˜˜˜ to sign your comments. You can also edit the article Gape shot during the discussion, but do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top of the article), this will not end the deletion debate.

[edit] Sheikh al-Hilali

Just to let you know that an AfD with the one-word rationale "disagree" isn't likely to result in the article being deleted. I've redirected the page you nominated to a much larger and better-referenced article on the imam, which should get around any notability issues you may have. You're welcome, of course, to nominate the larger article for deletion, but it may not get very far in that process. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 22:33, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Prod notice

[edit] Jake Lingle

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Jake Lingle, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:Jake Lingle. You may remove the deletion notice, and the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. [edit] License tagging for Image:Kunai on fire.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Kunai on fire.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 08:06, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Real-Estate Gurus

Are there genuine grounds for this category? If there are sources, could you give them? The capitalisation also needs to be justified. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:55, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

You need to check guidelines before creating a category; this one is likely to be deleted, I think (and definitely needs renaming even if stays). As for adding categories that aren't mentioned in an article, that's not on. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:56, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
It migfht be quicker for you, but it creates a lot of work for others (and if it's deleted, it's difficult to see how it's quicker for you either). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 18:07, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

The category is being discussed at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 February 10. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 11:23, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Zarah Garde-Wilson

A tag has been placed on Zarah Garde-Wilson, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Darkspots 04:44, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your userpage

[edit] Your userpage, again

I have nominated your userpage for deletion as being against WP's policies concerning what you may have on your userpage. (See also: Wikipedia is not a soapbox.) You are free to weigh in on the discussion being held here. -- Merope 03:42, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

My specific complaints are thus: 1) Userpages are not to be used for polemical statements--that includes making personal attacks (and there are those who would construe your characterization of administrators to be a personal attack, though you do not name names on that page)--and "using your userpage to campaign for or against anything" is also verboten. 2) Your very posting this here demonstrates a lack of civility. Your editing the userpages of editors who disagree with you to call them "wikinazis" shows that you are willing to act upon your beliefs stated, which demonstrates your committment to disruptive editing. While you may have made positive contributions in the past (I don't know; I haven't checked your full contribution history), it's clear that you want to stir up trouble by posting this. And that is what I object to. -- Merope 03:54, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] MfD closed

Hello. Merope withdrew the nomination, Greeves closed the discussion, and me, as a random passing-by admin, informally endorse it and removed the MfD notice from the user page.

Some comments: The problem with the term "wikinazi" is that it's not really encyclopaedia material; what more can you really say about it besides "a 'nazi' in a 'wiki'" that isn't already covered in a broad article like Criticism of Wikipedia or some other study of admin-user relationships of virtual communities? I'm not sure this article could ever grow beyond a dictionary definition.

Also, you say "I can't believe that a user's page as simple as this could end up as MfD." As someone who has watched these deletion debates for quite a while, I say it's entirely ordinary, yet also completely unalarming: I would have been extremely surprised if a page like this would have been found inappropriate and deleted. People nominate tons of pages for deletion but people forget that surprisingly few of them actually get deleted. You know, these really are discussions and not mechanical notices that something will get deleted and you have to fight the bureaucracy to save it =) --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 08:41, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Checksum for Singapore licence plates

I refer to Singapore licence plates. You state

Characters "F", "I", "N", "O", "Q", "V" and "W" are never used as check digit. The checkdigit for cars is calculated as the registration number Modulo operation 19 as it corresponds to the sequential letter in the alphabet (ignoring those not used as checkdigits). For example 5861 MOD 19 = 9 - this corresponds to K as the 9th sequential letter in the alphabet ignoring F and I.

This does not work out. (Number links to image of plate)

  • 7484 MOD 19 is 17, which should give "X", but the plate is 7484U
  • 8720 MOD 19 is 18, which should give "Y", but the plate is 8720K

--ZhongHan (Email) 12:34, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes it does - MOD19 can return 0! Start counting letters from 0 (i.e. A = 0)... See your user page for more info.

--PeterMarkSmith 02:50, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

You state "N" is not used as check digit, but in my talk page, you put N=11. I'm confused. Additionally, Mod 19 will never return 19, it will return 0. Therefore Z cannot = 19 --ZhongHan (Email) 10:41, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Additionally, if you start at A=0, 8515 Mod 19 is 3, which should then return D. Unless normal and off-peak cars have different start, i.e. off-peak cars are 1=A, normal cars are 0=A?--ZhongHan (Email) 11:06, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your edits (2) have been reverted on Children of Men

Jasper is not Theo's father. Please provide sources if you can find otherwise. Also know that after 3 reverts to an article, you can no longer edit it. This is know as the Three-revert rule. If you violate this rule, you may be banned from editing for 24 hours. Disinclination 06:01, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

I warned you because I do not like seeing people banned. You had added the same content twice. Usually, after three times, you may be banned for such an offense. But yes, there is, I believe, no reference of Jasper being Theo's father. They are just close friends. Disinclination 23:10, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

You're a twit and a wikinazi Disinclination. --PeterMarkSmith 13:55, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

How childish. In any case, the information was reverted twice. I thank you for not repeatingly putting it back in, and asking. However, any reference of Jasper being Theo's father and the 60's parenting reference is OR, and cannot be included on Wikipedia. If you can find a few reliable sources, it would be wise to put this in. Disinclination 19:42, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Please do not attack other editors. If you continue, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. DoomsDay349 02:45, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Is - or could - Jasper be Theo's father?

For:

1. Jasper knows an awful lot about Theo, Julia and their dead son. 2. There is a photo of Theo's family in a prominent place in Jasper's home.

Against: 1. Theo never calls Jasper anything but "Jasper" (not necessarily unusual for a sixties style child and parent).

Thoughts please?

--PeterMarkSmith 13:58, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Against:
2. Jasper and Theo are close friends, since before Theo and Julian's divorce.
I'd also suggest refraining from calling people "twit"s and "wikinazi"s. Disinclination 19:40, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes, Jasper could be Theo's father, but the evidence you cite only leaves it in the realm of speculation, not even probable. I don't recall any other events, dialogue or set/props that support the idea. I know quite a bit about a friend, her husband and two children, and even have a framed pic of all four of them, but we aren't related (and we call each other by our first names).
 Jim Dunning  talk  :  23:02, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
In the book, Theo is a professor of history at Oxford, and Jasper is his mentor. It could be argued that Jasper played the role of a Father Figure, but nothing more. —Viriditas | Talk 02:40, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
