Peter J. Crowley has been working as a traditional Photographic Artist for over thirty years. In the most simple terms his subjects are motion and emotion. Simplicity is the hardest concept to grasp. Peter works extensively in Black and White using film. He has a strong background in performing arts photography and published a limited edition monograph in July of 2001 titled "All the Usual Subjects" Seven years of my impressions of Willimantic Connecticut an old mill town seeking a new idenity.
In the early eighties Peter worked at Rites and Reason Theatre at Brown University, his documentary images of "The Blacker the Berry" a forty day ritual drama in celebration of the American Dream/Dilemma 1619-20 to 1979-80 are in the permanent collection of The National Museum of History Smithsonian Institute Washington D.C. the entire production was concieved and directed by George Houston Bass.
His love of dance led him to working with the figure creating traditional sculptural nudes to abstract color figures floating in space or apparent water.
For the last six years Peter has been working on documenting the changing face of Norwich Ct Downtown, shooting portraits and selling Prints to private collectors.
