Petrie is a pterosaur, and is also called a flyer, (a Pteranodon to be exact) and is the third friend of Littlefoot in The Land Before Time film series.
Petrie has a family, which are a mom (voiced by Tress MacNeille) and a bunch of brothers and sisters. He was originally afraid of flying until a tangle with the Original Sharptooth gave him the courage (and breath) to save his friends. He seems to idolize his Uncle Pterano, thinking he can do no wrong. He seems to have a strong relationship with Ducky.
He becomes, more or less, the main character in The Land Before Time XII: The Great Day of the Flyers, when he and his siblings have to complete a flight ordeal to show that they have become adults. He likes to fly alone, and thusly has trouble flying in group formation, and has many problems staying in formation. His uniqueness ends up being the "key" to completing the day, changing the Great Day of the Flyers forever.
Petrie is much more timid than Littlefoot and the others, and usually does not go along with the group without a bit of coaxing.

- Petrie tends to use "me" when "I" would be grammatically correct. For example, "Me hungry" instead of "I'm hungry"
- Also, he tends to omit the word "is." For example, "He so nice" instead of "He is so nice".
- Petrie has a fear of clouds (The Land Before Time XII)
