Petra Mandula

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Petra Mandula (born January 17, 1978 in Budapest) is a Hungarian tennis player, who represented her native country at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. There she was eliminated in the first round by Amanda Coetzer of South Africa. Four years later, when Athens, Greece hosted the Games, she once again was defeated in the first round, this time by Patty Schnyder of Switzerland.

Madula accomplished a feat that no other Hungarian woman has been able to do: reach a quarter-final of a Grand Slam. She reached the quarters at the 2001 French Open as a qualifier, winning seven straight matches and eventually losing to eventual runner-up Kim Clijsters.
