Peters Township is a township in Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 17,566 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 51.2 km² (19.8 mi²). 50.7 km² (19.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (0.91%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 17,566 people, 6,026 households, and 5,091 families residing in the township. The population density was 346.2/km² (896.6/mi²). There were 6,221 housing units at an average density of 122.6/km² (317.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.81% White, 0.48% African American, 0.03% Native American, 1.09% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 0.37% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.72% of the population.

There were 6,026 households out of which 41.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 77.5% were married couples living together, 5.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.5% were non-families. 13.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.87 and the average family size was 3.17.

In the township the population was spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 94.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.6 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $77,442, and the median income for a family was $86,661. Males had a median income of $68,147 versus $35,642 for females. The per capita income for the township was $36,159. About 1.1% of families and 1.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.1% of those under age 18 and 1.5% of those age 65 or over.

-Peters Township's High School is named "Peters Township High School" and its mascot is the Indian. The School and Township colors are Red and White. -The main thoroughfare in Peters Township is US RT 19 heading North and South, and East McMurray Road heading East and West.
