Peterborough Federal Liberal Youth Association

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Peterborough Federal Liberal Youth Association (PFLYA) is an Ontario Young Liberals (OYL) affliated youth political organization in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

The PFLYA was founded in April 2006 and is classified as a federal youth riding association by the OYL. In its first few months, the PFLYA established a presence on the web and founded an extremely active policy committee, which produced seven documents in its first session. From this committee came the Post-Secondary Bilingualism Policy, which received strong approval from its Central Ontario counterparts and successfully became standing policy of the Ontario Young Liberals at the annual "Summer Fling" policy conference, which the PFLYA won the bid to host at Trent University. The PFLYA was also voted the 2006 "Best New Club of the Year (Student or Riding)" by the Ontario Young Liberals at Summer Fling. The Post-Secondary Bilingualism Policy, officially named "Training in a Second Official Language," became official standing policy of the Liberal Party of Canada at the 2006 Liberal Leadership and Biennial Convention in Montreal, a huge achievement for such a young organization, and an event that sparked intense media coverage in the Peterborough region.
