Peter Thomas (television narrator)

Peter Thomas (born 28 June 1924) is a well known American narrator of television programs, including shows such as "Nova" and more recently "Forensic Files". Thomas is known for his crystal clear voice and precise diction. His career as a narrator spans over fifty years.

Mr. Thomas was born in Pensacola, Florida to Dr. John D. Thomas and Sibyl Addenbrooke. His Welsh father, a Presbyterian minister, and his British mother, a schoolteacher from Salisbury, stressed the importance or reading, education and memorization to their son. Thomas said that his father always stressed mental images as an important speaking tool. For example, he told his son if he were talking about horses he had to picture horses in his mind.
Thomas began narrating local radio shows as a teenager. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1943 and served with the First Infantry Division in five campaigns. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. Thomas received many awards for his work, but often said one of his proudest moments was when a documentary he narrated, "One Survivor Remembers," won an Oscar.
Mr. Thomas is married to Stella Thomas and live in Naples, Florida where he works out of his home.

Peter Thomas has also performed voice-overs for many commercials, including Coca-Cola, IBM, NBC, and Northwest Bank. He often does voice-over work for television commercials for political candidates. Thomas was also the narrator for the WWE's "The Monday Night War" and is also the voice heard in Paul Hardcastle's 1985 song "19."
