Peter Clarence Edward Simon, born in Salford, Yorkshire, United Kingdom is a British shopping television presenter and former children's television personality.

Peter's career began at the age of 12, when he became a presenter for Yorkshire Television's 'Junior Showtime'.

He is most famous for presenting the 'Double Dare' and 'Run The Risk' (the latter, presented by Simon and Shane Richie, became a programme in its own right) segments of the BBC1 Saturday-morning marathon Going Live!, the latter becoming one of the corporation's most successful children's television shows. He also worked on kids TV show "The Friday Zone" in 1997 where he got to interview people such as the Spice Girls and Boyzone.

He is currently a permanent auctioneer on bid tv (a shopping channel owned by Sit-up Ltd) where he is something of a cult amongst shopping TV viewers. Whilst presenting bid TV he never mentions his former work, but he has been known to do so if someone else brings the subject up. Many people in their twenties remember growing up watching him and Peter has by far the largest viewing figures on bid TV, many believe this is not because of the particular products he sells on the channel but because of Peter Simon's character.

Peter exclusively refers to his viewers as "At 'ome". He used to say "Bidders at home", but since bid tv dropped the bidding angle, he changed it.

In 2003 Peter appeared as a celebrity guest in Channel 4's The Salon.

Peter has recently appeared as a guest on ITV Play's The Mint.

Peter Simon is so popular he has had two dance songs (sampling both his quotes and 'simonisms') created for him by a fan.

[edit] Personality

Peter is a very professional presenter but he is not averse to straying from his presenting to entertain his viewers. He tells jokes (usually more 'puns'), dances to pieces of music from CDs he's selling, jogs around the studio pointing to upcoming products, breaks out into song or deliberately acts in a camp manner. He has a very funny and watchable style. He occasionally makes suggestive jokes (often of a camp nature). His humorous and unique banter is what keeps viewers tuning in. All of this combines to make him the most popular bid-TV presenter.

[edit] Quotes

Peter has many (un-intentional) catchphrases that he repeats ad infinitum.

  • "Please don't wait"
  • "You can't go wrong"
  • "I make no bones about this"
  • "First come first served"
  • "Dial the number, listen to the message, push the number 1 key and your job is done"

  • "Hey Ho (on we go)"
  • "I should coco"
  • "Great buy this, absolutely terrific buy"
  • "Not only.." (repeated for every product feature, as in "not only 21-speed Shimano gears, not only all-terrain tyres...")
  • "As a gift, as a present or just to treat yourself..."
  • "And THAT...is a nonsense."
