Peter Nattrass is the current Lord Mayor of Perth, Western Australia, having succeeded Reg Withers in 1995. He was elected to the City of Perth council in 1977. He was re-elected Lord Mayor in 1999 and again in 2003. His term in the office of Lord Mayor is the longest ever held for the City of Perth.
In June 2004, Nattras was accused of having engaged in domestic violence when his former wife, Margot Nattrass spoke of him in a Ladies' forum: I share this with you with reservation, and not in any way to denigrate my ex-husband, but to explain the situation that had developed in our relationship. It had become very destructive and abusive, physically, verbally, emotionally. As a result, the Legislative Assembly voted on a motion to consider whether he was a fit and proper person to hold the position of Lord Mayor. The motion was lost.[1]
He was a former practicising obstetrician and gynaecologist. His father, Roland Hodgson Nattrass (1904-1999) was a prominent consultant gynaecologist in several of Perth's public hospitals from the 1930s.[2]
