[edit] Career

Although wanting to become an airline pilot when younger (he still enjoys flying), Levy was a disc jockey at Bradford's Pennine Radio (now The Pulse of West Yorkshire) from its launch in 1975 - having been hired by Austin Mitchell. He was an actor in his teenage years.

Peter once worked at the same station as James Whale who is the current late-night talk host on the national commercial station talkSPORT.

He moved to Leeds-based Radio Aire, and then, in January 1987, to the BBC, eventually having a lunchtime show at BBC Radio Leeds. At this time he started as a regular stand-in presenter for the Leeds edition of Look North.

Look North was broadcast across the whole Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region at the time Levy started to work on it. Peter became the regular breakfast and lunchtime presenter of Look North in the mid 90s. When the BBC split the region into two, Levy moved to present the Hull edition full-time.

[edit] Look North

Levy's on-screen rapport with weatherman colleague Paul Hudson, and also Lisa Gallagher, has made him a popular local figure. The duo visited shopping centres around the region and met the public as part of the 2006 Look North Sofa Tour.

A popular feature on the programme is Leave it to Levy. Viewers are asked to write in with problems they think Levy should help them with or solve. Previous areas of intervention have included school crossing patrols and helping a local music group. The music group subsequently dedicated a tune to Levy. Peter also writes a daily letter posted on the Look North web site called the Levy Letter, where people can sign up for and receive daily.

On the programme Levy has interviewed a wide range of people. During an interview in 2004, Levy famously commented that he thought Scunthorpe United football manager Brian Laws was the spitting image of Pop Idol judge Simon Cowell. Laws was clearly irritated.

[edit] Personal life

Despite Levy's camp manner, famous ex-partners include Malandra Burrows (Emmerdale) and Countdown's Carol Vorderman.[citation needed] Levy lives on his own in a flat along Hull Quayside. He is often found out shopping on his own around Hull and Lincoln talking to local people.
