From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Peter John Duncan (born July 10, 1965) is the chairman of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party (since October 2004), and a member of its Shadow Cabinet. He was the only Conservative & Unionist MP in Scotland during the 2001–2005 parliament, when he was member for Galloway and Upper Nithsdale, Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland.
He took the seat from the Scottish National Party at the 2001 election - since the 1997 election the Conservatives had had no seats in Scotland at all. His majority was just 74 votes. In the 2005 election, after the boundaries of his constituency had been reorganised, he failed to win the seat of Dumfries & Galloway which was won by Labour's Russell Brown.
Peter Duncan was born in Ayrshire, educated at the University of Birmingham, and after working in the retail sector joined his family textile business as managing director. He is married with two children and now lives in Dalbeattie in Dumfries and Galloway.
