Peter Collecott CMG is the British Ambassador to Brazil.

• Born on 8 October 1950.
• Graduated in Mathematics from St John's College, Cambridge, where he was Captain of Soccer.
• PhD in Theoretical Physics from University of Cambridge.
• Married Judith Patricia Pead in 1982.

• Entered Diplomatic Service in 1977.
• Studied Arabic before a posting as First Secretary in Khartoum in 1980.
• First Secretary (Economic/Commercial) Canberra 1982.
• Head, Iran/Iraq Section, FCO 1986.
• Assistant Head, European Community Department (External), FCO 1988.
• Counsellor later Deputy Head of Mission Jakarta 1989.
• Counsellor (EU and Economic) Bonn 1994.
• Director Resources, FCO 1999.
• Chief Clerk, later Director General Corporate Affairs, 2001.
• British Ambassador to Brazil since August 2004
