Peter Carter

Dr Peter Carter OBE is a nurse and, since 1995, has been chief executive of the Central and North West London Mental Health NHS Trust previously Brent, Kensington, Chelsea & Westminster Mental Health Trust.

He commenced his NHS career by training as a psychiatric nurse at Hill End Hospital in St Albans. He also trained as a general nurse at St Albans City Hospital and the Institute of Urology in London. Peter holds an MBA and a PhD from the University of Birmingham and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (MCIPD).

He has also run a consultancy providing expert advice to legal firms who specialise in healthcare related litigation

He succeeded Beverly Malone as General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing in January 2007.
