Petar Lubarda

Petar Lubarda (Cetinje, 27th July 1907 - Belgrade, 13th February 1974) was an outstanding Montenegrin painter, considered to be the most influential figure on post-war painting in former Yugoslavia.
He was born in Ljubotinj, near Cetinje. He studied painting in Belgrade and Paris. From 1932 until his death he lived in Belgrade, with exception of period 1946 - 1950 when he was professor at Art School of Herceg Novi. His work is inspired by Montenegrin history and landscape, his compositions are dynamic with epic grandeur. He won many awards, not only in Europe but in Brazil and on Tokyo Biennale.
