[edit] Episode recap
On a cold winter night, a stray cat rings the doorbell at Jon’s house, pretending to be starving. Jon immediately takes him in and feeds him a big bowl of soup that Garfield was just about to eat. Garfield takes it back from the cat, to which Jon scolds him. Garfield decides that the cat should be punished for being such a phony (although not with Jon’s Casserole à la Arbuckle), but he tries to put it out of his mind until he discovers the cat sleeping in his bed.
Garfield puts a loud record on the record player, and when the music wakes the cat up, Garfield quickly takes his bed back. The music also wakes up Jon and Odie, and Jon turns off the music and assures Garfield that he’ll find a place for him to sleep -- which turns out to be a shoebox.
Garfield finds the cat raiding the refrigerator, and he tells him that Jon will fatten him up. Garfield then types up a recipe and slips it into Jon’s recipe box. The cat sees Garfield packing his bags the next morning, and he asks Garfield why he’s leaving; Garfield states it’s because he’s there. The cat is pleased that he can stay until Garfield reminds him that Jon is cooking Casserole à la Arbuckle. He begins to tell the cat what the main ingredient in the casserole is, but then he just decides to leave.
The cat finds a recipe for the casserole and learns that the main ingredient is one kitty cat. He then becomes frantic, especially after Odie starting licking him and he misinterprets it as tasting him. He then runs out and leaves the house to Garfield, who is waiting on the front porch. Garfield is soon enjoying things being back to normal until Jon comes across the modified recipe, and he enthusiastically notes “one kitty cat”. Garfield is unsure whether Jon is serious about fixing the new recipe.
[edit] Notes
- Garfield’s loud song of choice comes from the album The Marine Corps Band Plays Songs to Make Your Neighbors Move to Another Zip Code.
- Recipes in Jon’s recipe box include Candied Meatballs and Cantaloupe Chow Mein.
[edit] Trivia
- The typewriter Garfield uses only has letters A-R.
[edit] Quotes
Garfield: Who’d be stupid enough to be out on a night like this? [Odie walks up] No, not even him.
Garfield: That cat is a scheming, conniving, evil phony that deserves to be punished!
Jon: [To cat] And tomorrow, I’ll make my special Casserole à la Arbuckle for you.
Garfield: Ooh, but not that punished.
