Pescara Circuit
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pescara Circuit was a 16.032-mile road race course near Pescara, Italy.
The circuit hosted its first race in 1924, boasting two long straights between villages, as well as demanding corners in the seaside town. The roads were both narrow and bumpy, and the staggering 16-mile length was the longest of any open-wheel championship event.
In 1957, the Pescara Circuit played host to the short-lived Formula One Pescara Grand Prix, which drew an enormous crowd in excess of 200,000 spectators, making the 25km circuit the longest in terms of lap distance to ever stage a Formula One Grand Prix. Its last race was a world championship sports car race in 1961. After that race, the circuit was permanently retired as a racing venue as it was impossible for the organizers to guarantee safety of drivers and spectators.
