[edit] Some questions

Hi. I would like to ask why this template specify the value "ar" in the lang attribute, shouldn't it be "fa" for Persian language? Also, I would like to know the purpose of adding at the end the entities "‎ ". I understand the prupose of the Left-to-right mark is to avoid the Unicode bidi algorithm causing havoc with punctuation,[1] but what's the purpose of Unicode Character 'ZERO WIDTH SPACE' (U+200B)? Thanks! --surueña 13:14, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

I added the zero width space. I can't seem to remember why now. But at the time it seemed really important. Cuñado - Talk 17:03, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
OK. I made some tests in Template:ArTranslit test, and after removing that character it didn't produce any change, but I suppose it will help in some rare situations. About the language code, I'll change it now to "fa". Best regards. --surueña 20:26, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] deprecate

do not use this, use {{lang|fas|...}}, we don't want the clutter of a separate template for every language on earth. dab () 11:42, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not paper. The clutter is organized with a see also. Cuñado - Talk 19:27, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
In my POV, it's not a good idea to deprecate this family of templates yet. Cuñado, you are right in the sense that these template don't suppose a burden on the servers, but they do on users (too much multilingual templates to remember). We are working in i18n issues in Wikipedia, and in the end the number of multilingual templates should be reduced. Dbachmann, as Farsi is written with a right-to-left alphabet, the template that should be used is {{rtl-lang|fa|Farsi text}}. But we are still testing the behavior with different browsers. If any of you want to join us see Template talk:lang. Best regards --surueña 20:08, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
I totally agree. I'm the one that took several Arabic templates and put them as a "see also". I created template:ArB, template:PerB, and template:ArTranslit to help with a lot of formatting that I was doing at the time. If they can somehow be consolidated and organized better, then I'm all for it. I took a slight offense to dab's insistence on (what appears to me) his personal preference.
