Personal Aide-de-Camp
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Personal Aide-de-Camp to The Queen (or to The King, when appropriate) is a member of the British Royal Family with military rank who has been appointed one of the Sovereign's honorary military attendants.
Those currently holding such appointments are:
- Field Marshal His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent
- Admiral His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales
- Captain Mark Phillips (former husband of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal)
- Captain His Royal Highness The Duke of York
- His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex
- Rear Admiral Timothy Laurence (husband of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal)
There are several other categories of senior Aides-de-Camp. Most are serving military, naval and air officers, usually of colonel or brigadier rank or equivalent. There are also specific posts for very senior officers, such as First and Principal Naval Aide-de-Camp, Flag Aide-de-Camp, Aide-de-Camp General, and Air Aide-de-Camp.
