Germanic mysticists, of whom some would have referred to themselves as Germanic Pagans, were not the primary victims of the holocaust, but have been persecuted in the Third Reich.[citation needed] Although Nazi mysticism was based on Germanic mysticism, the totalitarian Nazi party viewed all independent religious groups as a danger.
Germanic Neopaganism is a form of polytheistic reconstructionism, but many refer to themselves simply as Heathens. Most Neopagan groups are tolerant towards other religions. But there are some groups that are linked to White supremacy and Neo-Nazi movements. Most notable are David Lane in the USA and Varg Vikernes in Norway. Conflicts between Neopagans groups and the authorities many sometimes be portrayed by those groups as persecution of Germanic Pagans.
