Peratata

Peratata (Greek: Περατάτα) is a village located 8 km ESE of Argostoli and about 32 km W of Poros in the municipality of Livathos on the island of Kefalonia. Persata is linked with the road linking Poros and Argostoli and a small road to the historic castle. The Aenos mountain lies to the northeast along with the hills of Omalon. Farmlands including dry grasslands and pastures and olive groves lie to the south and around the pine and spruce forested hills cover the northern part along with other trees, farmlands cover the east and some in the south, further north are made up of grasslands and some rocks. A stream are founded to the west. The panorama includes the northern part of the island of Zante, the main part of Leivathos including villages and farmlands to the west and the mountains to the west.

Much of the population are rural and the main economy is based on agriculture. The income was very poor. Residential homes and buildings are entirely within the Poros - Argostoli Road. The urban area stretches for some 400 to 600 m. Much of the population from the mid-20th century left for larger towns and mainly cities. The 1953 Ionian Earthquake destroyed every building in Peratata that took months to rebuilt. The entire population that time as well as other parts of the island were homeless and part of the population left Moussata. The following years, Moussata became linked with the paved roads.

Famous landmark includes the Agios Georgios Castle (Greek for Saint George) which is surrounded by beautiful pine trees and sits over a hill. The castle features loopholes. The castle is accessed with a road to the east and has a northeast access.

Peratata has hotels including Ionis, tourism mainly at the castle and agriculture are the main industry on the island. The majority of the population are rural. Most of the tourists lie within the beach areas.

Peratata has a small school, a church, a gas station and a small square (plateia). The nearest beaches are to the near Pessada to the south and Klismata to the southeast.
