Peradeniya

Peradeniya is a town of about 50,000 inhabitants on the outskirts of Kandy in Sri Lanka. It is situated on the A1 main road connecting Kandy and Colombo, just a few kilometres west of Kandy.
Peradeniya is famous for the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in Asia[citation needed]. It is situated in a slope of the Mahaweli river and attracts many visitors from Sri Lanka as well as from abroad.
Another key attribute of this city is the University of Peradeniya which is the second oldest University in Sri Lanka[citation needed] and also the largest in the country with more than 8,000 students[citation needed]. Buildings in a mixed colonial and Indian style architecture amongst the lush vegetation of the Sri Lankan hill country.
