The Peoria Rough Riders were a professional arena football team. They were a charter member of the UIF. They played their home games at Carver Arena. They began as the Peoria Pirates of the Indoor Football League in 1999. They were IFL runner-ups in 1999 and won the IFL championship in 2000 before their original league folded and the franchise moved over to af2. After the move, the Pirates managed to win Arena Cup III over the Florida Firecats, but couldn't repeat their performance the following year. After losing ArenaCup V to the Firecats, the franchise moved to the UIF and became the Peoria Rough Riders. However, this success had not translated with their move to the UIF.
Before changing team name (along with their move to the UIF), their operating name was appropriately the Mutineers.
On September 15, 2006, the Rough Riders officially folded. The owners of hockey's Peoria Rivermen plan to put an af2 franchise in Peoria for 2008. [1]
