The Peoples Improv Theater, or PIT, was established in New York City in 2002 by Ali Farahnakian and Armando Diaz (Diaz has since left the theater and helped launch the Magnet Theater). Currently located at 154 W. 29th Street, 2nd Floor in Chelsea, Manhattan, the PIT features improvisational comedy, sketch comedy, and other forms of theater, in the quest to raise the craft of comedy to the level of art.

Prominent performers at the theater include The Harvard Sailing Team, Possible Side Effects, Elephant Larry, and Threat. In addition to a full curriculum for learning improvisational comedy, the PIT features a professional comedy writing program.

Wednesday night is billed as "Super Free Wednesdays," because all the shows that night are free of charge. Performing on Wednesdays are The PIT's house teams which are: Big Black Car, Fancy Dragon, The Baldwins, and SidViscous. The Faculty also performs each Wednesday at 9:30.
