The People of the State of California v. Marsden was a 1970 Supreme court case in California, USA that allowed defendants with court-appointed counsel to request new counsel if they could demonstrate that their views of the proceedings differed greatly from that of their counsel.

Judges in California can how hold Marsden hearings in closed court to establish whether these situations exist in their court.
