Sumatran Orangutans are avoid travelling on the ground more than their Bornean counterparts in part, perhaps, to avoid Sumatran tigers.

Predation risk comes from animals such as the Sumatran tiger and clouded leopards. To avoid predation females with infants especially build nests in trees and away from risky spots, such as popular fruit trees. [Sugarjito, J. 1983.
