I'd favour renaming this article "Saddledome". No one cares which company currently owns its naming rights. -- Anon

Well, it's always dangerous to say "no one" but I take your point. On the other hand it is pretty widely known as the Pengrowth Saddledome even though many people (including myself) had no idea that Pengrowth was the name of a company -- at least I didn't until I read your note above. Officially it is named Pengrowth Saddledome so that is what it should stay. There is precedence in many other arena articles. --Djsasso 19:19, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Yes and no. The trouble is that that official name could change tomorrow (as it has in the past). It's too temporary. The only part of the name which doesn't change as the years go by is the Saddledome part of it. Other arenas may need the corporate sponsor part of the name for disambiguation purposes but as far as I can see there's only one Saddledome... -- Derek Ross | Talk 19:27, 2005 Jan 29 (UTC)
Checking into it a little further, the Saddledome is actually run by the Saddledome Foundation whose board members include representatives from Calgary, from Alberta, from the Olympic committee, from the Canadian Hockey Association and from The Stampede Board. There is no representation from Pengrowth though. -- Derek Ross | Talk 19:39, 2005 Jan 29 (UTC)
Yes it could change tomorrow and at that time there should be a name change. Thats sorta what wikipedia is good for. Changing when things change, unlike a printed version. It doesn't change enough that its ever really an issue. Usually they sign contracts for such things for many years. For example it was supposed to be the Canadian Airlines Saddledome for like 15 or 20 years I forget the exact amount. Only reason it changed to Pengrowth was that Canadian went belly up. --Djsasso 22:13, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Article name change

How do you change the name of the article to "Saddledome".......calling it the "pengrowth saddledome" is ridiculous, nobody will type into the search engine "pengrowth saddledome" --Vega007

I am against moving this page. However, if you want instructions to do this see Wikipedia:How to rename (move) a page. I have created a redirect so that if anyone searches on "Saddledome", they come to this page. This addresses the search problem you noted. I am surprised that no one created this redirect before now. --JamesTeterenko 05:42, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
well i think a redirect is perfect, good job, no need to change the article name now, thanks -vega007
I had actually thought I already had...wierd...I must be getting old. --Djsasso 04:59, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)
