Pentucket Regional School District is a three town regional school district. Elementary schools are located in each town, and the high school campus is located mostly in West Newbury and partially in Groveland. The schools teach the languages French, Spanish, and German. This school district is formed by three towns: Groveland, Merrimac, and West Newbury. Its administrative offices are housed in the middle school at 22 Main Street, West Newbury, Massachusetts. The school district is noted for its excellence in state wide test scores and is consistently ranked one of the highest in the area, despite relatively low per-pupil spending. During 2004-2005, the school experienced a budget crisis, culminating in the state Department of Education taking control of the district's finances. The issue was resolved recently when the money was found in a forgotten bank vault.[citation needed] Although not fully recovered from the issue, the schools are showing great progress and continue to get some of the highest MCAS scores in the state.

The schools are:

  • Merrimac: The Dr. Frederick Sweetsir (K-2) and Helen Donaghue Elementary (3-6)
  • Groveland: The Elmer Bagnall (K-6) Elementary and Pentucket Regional Middle School (7 and 8)
  • West Newbury: The Dr. John Page (K-6) Elementary and Pentucket Regional High School (9-12)

The District is led by a twelve-member School Committee, comprised of four members from each town. As of 2006, these are:

  • Merrimac: Guillaume Buell, Earl Baumgardner, Jed Levine, and Maureen Moran
  • Groveland: Carol Grazio, Doreen Blades, Maria Piccolomini, and Rick Fournier
  • West Newbury: Tom Atwood, Phil Littlefield, Jill Alpert, and Heather Conner
