Penncrest High School is a high school in Media, Pennsylvania U.S.. It is the high school for the Rose Tree Media School District and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Penncrest students score in the top 25 percent of the state on the PSSA. In addition, Penncrest students achieved the highest combined scores in Delaware County on the PSSA.

The successor to Media High School, Penncrest is a four-year high school.

[edit] Curriculum

Penncrest's curriculum offers over 150 courses. Honors and Advanced Placement Program (AP) courses are offered in all major subject areas. Students who successfully complete AP courses are eligible to take Advanced Placement tests and receive college credit for these courses. The school also receives credential credit when students take AP classes with respectable results. Additional vocational courses are offered at Delaware County Area Technical schools and further career education is available at satellite institutions. (Students thus enrolled attend one-half day at Penncrest taking required courses and one-half day at the technical school.) Special education programming is also available for students with special needs.

  • Hi-Q - the oldest academic quiz competition in the United States, begun in 1948
  • Envirothon - PA State Champions (2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006)[2], North American Champions (2000, 2005)
  • Physics Olympics - a regional competition combining problem solving and various construction oriented competitions. Penncrest holds two national records (championships and meets won)
  • Science Olympiad - PA State finalists (2004, 2005, 2006), Fifth in Nation (2006)
