Pendle college was founded in 1974 and is named after the region of Lancashire which is connected to the Lancaster Witch Trials and Pendle Hill. This, as well as a more obvious reason, is why the female members of the college are known as The Pendle Witches. The college moved to its current location in 1993.

Pendle College has additional accommodation in the nearby George Fox buildings. Pendle rooms were considered the best on campus until the new blocks in Alexandra Park were completed in 2004, yet many still regard the standard rooms to be preferable to more expensive en-suite rooms. It has the tallest bar on campus as it is two stories high, the largest bar is Cartmel.
