Pembroke School is a co-educational, non-denominational, independent day and boarding school which offers the IB, located 5 kilometres east of the CBD of Adelaide, South Australia. The School was established in January 1974 as the amalgamation of King's College, a school for boys, and Girton Girls' School. The founding schools were independent, neighbouring schools of quality and have a combined history dating back to 1915. The School comprises of the two original campuses, the Kings Campus and the Girton Campus. The school's motto, "Ex Unitate Vires," meaning "In Unity, Strength," is imprinted onto the schools emblem.

Pembroke is divided into three 'sub-schools':

• Junior School (Early Learning Centre - Year 6)
• Middle School (Years 7-10)
• Senior School (Years 11-12)

In the Junior School, students are allocated into four houses (blue, red, green and yellow) which are used for sporting events.

On their entry into either the Middle or Senior schools, students are allocated one of the school's eight Houses: Hill (red), Wright (dark green), Smith (light blue), Yates (yellow), Mellor (dark blue), Medlin (purple), Reeves (orange) and the school's newest house, Oats (light green).
In the Middle school, Houses define tutorial groups, have a significant effect on students' subject teachers and play an important role in organizing intra-school sport and other activities.
Whilst the houses play a bigger role in the lives of Middle school students, the house system in the Senior school is only applicable for swimming and athletics days.

As King's College, the school was also responsible for the iconic Green and Gold Cookery Book, first published in 1923 and still available for purchase today.

The book, Principles and Pragmatism, details the history of Pembroke School, in particular the period around amalgamation of the two precursor schools, Girton Girls School and Kings College. This book was written by John Davis, a former teacher.
