Pelforth is a brand of French beer, part of the Heineken group.

Around 1914, Louis Boucquey, Armand Deflandre and Raoul Bonduel, three lillois brewers, decided to partner together to face the problem of scarcity (notably copper). They chose the name of Pelican for their new creation, the name comes from a popular dance of the time. The beer is a lager. There is no problem to sell it, whether in 33 cl bottles or in a cask.
In 1935, Jean Deflandre, the son of Armand, succeeded to put together two malt's of barley to create an Ale, with an English yeast, to create a revolutionary beer. He named it Pelforth 43, Pel for Pelican, forte for strong (the French word forte means strong) because it contains a lot of malt (43 kg/hL), and the h added to give it an English feel. The bottle also received a new design.
Even when the production was stopped during World War II, the Pelforth had no problem to restart in 1950, and to conquer Europe again. The '43 was abandoned, the Pelforth was now sold in bottles of 25 cl, 33 cl and in casks of all sizes.
In 1972, the brewery adopted the Pelforth name for good. It was bought by Français de Brasserie in 1986, which was acquired by Heineken in 1988.
In addition to the Blonde and Brune, the Pelforth Amber was introduced in 2003.

The Pelforth breweries actually produce 22 different brands, from George Killian's', a beer with a whisky malt, to Bière de Mars and Bière de Noël (seasonal French beers). The sale totals 3 million hectoliters per year.

- Pelforth Brune has a strong caramel or honey taste, and a slight taste of coffee. It is relatively sugary and a little bitter, for a brown beer. 6.5% alcohol
- Pelforth Blonde is an easy to drink and refreshing beer. 5.8% alcohol
- Pelforth Amber has an alcohol content of 6%.
