Peking Union Medical College, Tsinghua University (北京协和医学院,清华大学医学部)[1] is among the most selective medical colleges in the People's Republic of China and internationally renown. Its original name is Peking Union Medical College. It was founded by China Medical Board of the Rockefeller Foundation in 1917 and was modeled after Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine following the recommendations of the Flexner Report which set the foundation of modern Medical Education in the United States. It was renamed to Peking Union Medical College, Tsinghua University in September 2006.
The curriculum requires 8 years of study, including 3 years of pre-medical instructions at Tsinghua University. The medical education employs Peking Union Medical College Hospital which is widely believed in China as one of the most prestigious medical institutions. Many political and social elites seek medical treatment at the PUMC Hospital.
PUMC has produced a cadre of leaders in Medicine and Surgery.
