Pedro Bautista was a Spanish Franciscan who died as a martyr in Japan along with 25 other Christians. They are all recognized as saints by the Roman Catholic Church. Bautista had worked about ten years in the Philippines before coming to Japan; he was a companion of Paul Miki when Christianity was made illegal. He and the others were crucified in Nagasaki on February 5, 1597.
