Pedro Adigue
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pedro Adigue, Jr (November 16, 1943-2003) was a world champion boxer from the small town of Bontod in Palanas, Masbate, the Philippines.
He was crowned a World Boxing Council champion in 1968 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines. He won against Adolph Pruitt the WBC's World Junior Welterweight Championship, the heaviest weight division in boxing that a Filipino has ever fought at. In 1970, he lost the title to Bruno Arcari in what was deemed by some as a disputed unanimous decision. This, however, did not deter Adigue to continue to trade in the boxing world. In 1973, he went on to win the Orient Jr. Welterweight Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, earning for himself the moniker, "Oriental Tiger." Throughout his 15 year boxing career, Adigue held five championship titles, including one world championship title.
In 2003, after a long fight against cancer, Pedro Adigue died.
