"Peasant for a Day" is an episode of The Emperor's New School.

[edit] Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

It is Kuzco Allegiance Day. This follows Kuzco Appliance Day, during which Kuzco alarm sundials were given away, and are now playing the Kuzco Allegiance Day song. Kuzco uses it to annoy Pacha, Chicha and the kids, and to make them obey and serve him. He also makes Kronk carry him around on a palanquin strapped to his back. Malina is far from impressed, going so far as to tell Kuzco off for his egotism.

A frustrated Mr. Moleguaco decides on an exercise to teach Kuzco a lesson. A random drawing will pick on member of the class to be Emperor for the day. Upon realising that Kuzco is going to win fair and square, Malina abuses her position of trust to make Kronk the victor instead. Kuzco is given the choice of praising and bowing to Kronk or failing. The Academy is redecorated to bear Kronk's image instead of that of Kuzco, the gym is made into his throne room, and Yzma is delighted to be the Emperor's advisor again.

Malina spends time with Kuzco in an attempt to help him learn the lesson of humility he is tasked with. She has him partake in various activities to show him that his "preconceived notions of villagers are wrong." He even has a try at farming and pottery-making, but is still not keen on bowing to Kronk.

After reviewing financial records, Kronk has the guards repossess the Yzma's lab and its equipment (in favour of renting the space out to Mr. Molguaco as an ice cream parlour), and then proceeds to fire Yzma. When she encounters the two students, Malina confesses to fixing the draw. The three plot to make Kronk quit, by having him listen to their requests, which Kuzco says is the worst part of being Emperor. This works splendidly, but not before Kuzco makes his bow to Kronk (barely).

Kuzco declares the next day to be Kuzco Teacher Appreciation Day, with the appropriate decorations for the academy. He presents Mr. Molguaco with a Kuzco alarm sundial and demands $29.95, changing the teacher's newfound good mood back to frustration.

Spoilers end here.

[edit] Trivia

  • UK Premiere: 7 April 2006
  • The Kuzco Allegiance Day song played by the Kuzco alarm sundial is to the tune of Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries.
  • The Kuzco alarm sundial is obviously an alarm clock. It retails at $29.95, despite the currency being referred to as Kuzcoins in Cart Wash.
  • Kuzco compares his importance favourably to a bust of Julius Caesar, Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty.
  • Kuzco's desk is adorned with a drawing of he and Malina as a couple. Kronk's bears an image of himself as a superhero, not unlike Mr. Incredible (but with the dangerous cape).
  • Yzma and Kronk mention Kuzco being turned into a llama, a rabbit and a red-eyed tree frog. These refer to The Emperor's New Groove, Rabbit Face and The Adventures of Red-Eyed Tree Frog Man respectively.
  • When living as a villager, Kuzco wears the llama poncho given to him by Chicha in the first movie.
  • Kuzco mentions that he believes villagers shop at Yzmart, a reference to supermarket chains such as Wal-Mart.
  • Kuzco mentions having fired Yzma in the past, which of course was in the first movie.
  • Kronk has a howler monkey friend named Honksley.
  • Kuzco gets turned into: Nothing.
  • "Pull the lever" gag: No lever gag, but the weight of Kronk and three guards riding the rollercoaster is enough to send it crashing through the buffer at the end.
  • Bucky appears: following the farming Kuzco, eating the seeds that he plants.
  • "Kuzco's doodles": Kuzco describes himself living a rather skewed version of a villager's life.
  • End credits: A Kuzco alarm sundial sings about the end credits.
  • This is the first episode with Kuzco in his classic emperor attire from the first movie.
