Opened in 1972 and expanded in 1976, the enclosed mall is split up into two separate areas (Uptown and Downtown) and overlooks historic Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial. The property includes the only monorail in Hawaii, the only emergency clinic located on mall property (Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi), an eight story office complex (Pearlridge Office Center), and Hawaii's largest watercress farm (Sumida Farm).

One of Pearlridge's most unique landmarks is the Skycab, Hawaii's only monorail system. Connecting both Uptown and Downtown, it provides a unique transport and a notable focalpoint of the center. Rides cost 50 cents one way. The monorail has a new look, come and see it.

[edit] Sumida Farm

One other unique landmark of Pearlridge is Sumida Farm, Hawaii's largest watercress farm. Currently it is on leased on land owned by Bishop Estate.

[edit] Pearlridge West

Pearlridge West hosts several stores, notably Hawaii's only Circuit City.

[edit] Stand-alone Stores

Not attached to any of the main Pearlridge buildings on either side (Ewa or Diamond Head sides) of the Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi are several stand-alone stores. They are Ross, Inspiration Furniture, and Toys R Us.

[edit] Stand-alone Resturaunts

Pearlridge also hosts several stand-alone resturaunts in the mall property. Pearlridge West hosts Anna Miller's and Bravo Resturaunt, while bordering the Sumida Farm outside of Uptown is Monterey Bay Canners. Downtown hosts Chili's, California Pizza Kitchen, and Sizzler.

[edit] Rival

Considered a major civic center in West O‘ahu, Pearlridge Center rivals the larger tourist destination Ala Moana Center near Waikīkī. Pearlridge Center is usually favored by local residents as it offers local tastes in merchandise and services as opposed to high-end merchandise and services provided at its close to Waikīkī counterpart.
