Peace Organisation of Australia

The Peace Organisation of Australia is a non-profit and non-religious organization based in Melbourne, Australia. Its stated objective is the promotion of world peace through education. The organization was established in May 2005 by a group of students from the University of Melbourne. It has lobbied the Australian Government to support the observance of a global ceasefire on the International Day of Peace. It publishes the Australian Journal of Peace Studies. In July 2006, it awarded the inaugural Australian Peace Prize to Dr. Helen Caldicott "for her longstanding commitment to raising awareness about the medical and environmental hazards of the nuclear age". Its current president is Timothy Wright.
