Image talk:Peace Corps Logo.jpg

|This isn't in the public domain: "The Peace Corps logo is the property of the Peace Corps. The use of the logo is restricted to official Peace Corps programs authorized under the Peace Corps Act. An electronic version of the Peace Corps logo is available by contacting the Peace Corps Press Secretary at pressoffice@peacecorps.gov." --from the Peace Corps website

  • You are correct, 12.24.216.130. Thank you for bringing it to my attention that this is not, as most U.S. Government images are, in the public domain. I have changed the tag to "Logo," which is a "fair use" designation and will consult with a Wikipedia editor or administrator about what to do next. --an RPCV, Cuppysfriend 00:53, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
  • I emailed the Peace Corps press office for permission to use the logo and was turned down. Although the logo is available for almost any non-commercial purpose that promotes Peace Corps, the agency's lawyers say that posting on a public web site is not one of them. Accordingly, I have reluctantly listed this image for deletion at Wikipedia:Images_and_media_for_deletion#April_24 --Cuppysfriend 20:15, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
This should fall squarely under fair use. We should put it back. — BrianSmithson 12:37, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
I, too, think that it's fair use; but there's a statute involved. Apparently there's a similar problem with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service logo. -Cuppysfriend 18:28, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
I realize that they may not want us to use the logo, but I don't think Peace Corps gets to define what is and is not fair use. The boilerplate text under our fairuse/logo template should cover this adequately. If people are really antsy about using the logo straight out, I'll scan one of my old handbooks in and use the cover image. — BrianSmithson 19:01, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
  • I have a Somali phrase to insert here about not allowing the PC logo. 2 suggestions. 1)Can somebody design something and call it a logo. 2)In the meantime I will upload a USPS stamp as the logo file <grin>, Hey, if I looked I would have seen it on the PC page. And anybody got a RPCV logo that is legal for my userbox ? I think I have a picture of a very battered PC ID, maybe I will use that.
