Pe'ah

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pe'ah (Hebrew: פֵּאָה‎, lit. "Corner") is the second tractate of Seder Zeraim ("Order of Seeds") of the Mishnah and of the Talmud. It is concerned mainly with the "corner" of their produce that Jews are required to reserve for the poor in accordance with Lev. 19:9 and Lev. 23:22. It consists of eight chapters and has a Gemara ("Completion") from only the Jerusalem Talmud. Like most of the other tractates from Zeraim, the rabbis who redacted the Babylonian Talmud did not see a reason to discuss these laws as they only apply if one lives in the Land of Israel.
