PC load letter
Refill Paper

The second is shorter, and would be universally understood. Amusingly bad UI design. -- All the best, Nickj (t) 23:56, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

I reprogram them to say "FEED ME LETTER" or "FEED ME LEGAL" - usually I get an amused look out of a secretary when her printer asks to be fed. :)
The message is actually fine, if cryptic. PC refers to the standard 250 sheet tray, "MP" is the front paper feed ("multipurpose tray"), and "LC" would be the 500 sheet tray sold as an accessory. Dr Zak 14:09, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Universally understood, perhaps -- but won't help if, say, the printer is in Germany; people would be likely to put A4 paper in, since that's the standard size there. If the printer is expecting Letter format paper, it'll still ask for that, since that's not what it got. Now try explaining to someone why "Refill paper" can't be satisfied by refilling paper. -- pne (talk) 15:35, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
It's even more strange in german speaking countries, as the error message is a direct translation: "PC laden letter". As with the english version, people assume "laden" (load) refers to the loading of a program, file or gun, and letter not to the paper format, but a letter. People still encounter this message or similiar, when trying to print PDFs in letter format, when the printer is not set to ignore it. Also as far as I can tell, the article is technically correct - maybe cite the HP documentation for the printer(s) as a source could help, if they're online.

[edit] Fix?

Is there any way to avoid getting the message in the first place? The printer prints on A4 just fine. I'm fed up walking over to the printer just to press continue (for over 10 years now). Pgr94 17:41, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Some printers can be set to "ignore Letter/A4". I don't know the models offhand, but the Laserjet 4000 already has it, maybe even the 5.
