[edit] CSD expand
Hi there! Regarding your quick response to the CSD proposal... since this has been live for scant hours it's still possible to reword some of them. Thus I have two questions, 1) I don't understand your remark about the Dell Vikings, since their article both asserts media attention and the release of a number of albums. And 2) you are absolutely right regarding the Modrons. Would you find it ok if I reworded it to specifically exclude races or types of creature? Yours, Radiant_>|< July 4, 2005 17:25 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion/Proposal/3
PBurka pointed out that an important omission from this proposal: a band could meet WP:MUSIC criterion #5 (sharing a member with a famous band) and still be speedily deletable by this criterion. I've added a sentence to the proposal to reflect this: it now reads An article about a musician or music group that does not assert having released at least one album, nor having had media coverage, nor having a member that is or was also part of a well-known music group. If the assertion is disputed or controversial, it should be taken to VFD instead. Please consider if you support this new wording, and change your vote accordingly. Yours, Radiant_>|< July 5, 2005 09:59 (UTC)
Regarding The Dell Vikings, I feel obliged to point out that the original content [1] didn't actually state anything about this band. This sounds to me like a prime example of a lacking article being created on a worthy subject. Please note that it is always possible to create an article (or stub) with actual content if an article with no content by the same name was speedily deleted. Yours, Radiant_>|< July 5, 2005 09:59 (UTC)
- For the record :) The Vikings as it stands now contains references to media attention (e.g. several top hits). So does the article on Bach, since it mentions ten books written about him. Radiant_>|< July 5, 2005 10:22 (UTC)
- For the record, I do believe a top hit is media coverage (since all top hits to my knowledge are played almost ad nauseam on TV and radio). I also believe that WP:MUSIC is at least somewhat redundant; in fact, most on VFD tend to only refer to item #3 (releasing an album). And I do believe that a book qualifies as medium (written medium), both per wikt:Media and the sentence "Physical duplication technologies such as printing, record pressing and film duplication allowed the duplication of books, newspapers and movies at low prices to huge audiences." in Media here.
- However, that is my opinion and common sense may or may not agree with it. The aim of the proposal is to allow us to quickly get rid of articles on the average garage band (three guys who know each other from high school and that play guitar occasionally, and post a vanity article despite having no fame whatsoever). And this is the wording we've come up with after lengthy discussion. Personally I hope that this will accomplish what we seek, without deleting anything that is encyclopedic. It may well turn out that I am wrong, hence the vote. If you have suggestions as to a better proposal, I would be happy to hear them (for potential other proposals no earlier than september). yours, Radiant_>|< July 5, 2005 13:25 (UTC)
- Please note that this is not vote tampering: your old vote is in place on Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion/Proposal/3-A ([2]), and I have asked for your new vote on Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion/Proposal/3-B, since there is an important difference between the two. Yours, Radiant_>|< July 5, 2005 13:25 (UTC)
[edit] CSD Proposal 3-B
You voted or commented on Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion/Proposal/3-B or Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion/Proposal/3-A or both. I have proposed a revised version, at Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion/Proposal/3-C. This version is intended to address objections made by many of those oppsoed to 3-A or 3-B. The revised propsal refers explicitly and directly to the criteria at WP:MUSIC. If you have not already done so, please examine the revised proposal and vote on it also. Thank you. [edit] Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/The Fifty Worst Films of All Time
Hello, thanks for voting! You suggested that the article be kept for notability. So what is it that you would care to keep: the article about the book or the list of worst movies in itself? If the former - then such an article about the book should not be a mere list of the "worst" movies, I believe. Plus, the article is in need of lots of improvement and doesn't it qualify for deletion just for that. What do you think? - Introvert (talk) 20:21, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Data Recognition
I hope this is the way to reply to your msg of yesterday (Forgive me if I'm doing it the wrong way - I'm a newbie).
I responded yesterday:
Data recognition and optical character recognition are slightly different. OCR normally refers to recognition of specific fonts (OCR-A, OCR-B etc) designed to make recognition as easy and accurate as possible. Over the past few years, development of data recognition software has advanced to the stage where there are viable applications that read almost any font including handwriting, and extract data with a very degree of accuracy. Hence, I have no problem with data recognition being grouped with optical character recognition, as long as the differences are explained. I suspect it might be slightly better to have them as separate articles, linked by cross-reference perhaps. --Kywong73 06:52, 11 July 2005 (UTC)
I've since looked at the article on Optical Character Recognition, which is excellent. Some discussion of the term 'data recognition;' would fit in there quite nicely. Kywong73 23:24, 11 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Historical Jesus
You voted on the above. Your comments suggest that you may not have compared the article Historical Jesus to the article New Testament view on Jesus' life. The Historical Jesus article explicitely states in it's opening paragraph that it "presents a critical reconstruction of the Historical Jesus, as based on the four canonical gospels", and therefore I would suggest that it constitutes a POV fork of New Testament view on Jesus' life. Could you possibly review your vote? ~~~~ 17:47, 14 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] CSD
Hi there! I am writing a short essay on the present CSD proposal and the reactions to it, because I think it shows some interesting thoughts that preside in the WikiCommunity, and such an essay may be an interesting article for the Signpost, or a useful read for anyone who wishes to propose anything in the future. Anyway I wanted to ask you about your comment, "This is not the right forum to turn WP:MUSIC into policy". Could you please explain a bit what you mean? We have in the past created policy out of some other guidelines, e.g. the 3RR policy which used to be a guideline. Or did you mean that doing such would require another kind of forum or proposal or procedure? I can certainly understand (and sometimes agree with) people opposing an idea because of improper procedure, but if that is the case I would like to write that into the essay so that better procedures will be used in the future. Thanks for your time! Radiant_>|< 13:19, July 17, 2005 (UTC)

You recently deleted Hey Now! (song), Jimmy the dreadpirate, and Saifooz with the following comments:

- Saifooz: content was: '{{d}}== Headline text ==SaifoozSaifooz is a nikename for a great man that is living for the current century and has created many web sites and arti...'''
As a non-admin, I can't see the contents of these articles, but they don't seem to obviously meet any WP:CSD. What critieria did these articles meet? Pburka 17:46, 16 July 2005 (UTC)
Also, Chong Choy Hoe, Red Ribbon Empire, Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery, and David Edwards (Who Wants to be a Millionaire winner). Especially the last one -- there are 90000 google hits for "David Edwards who wants to be a millionaire" Pburka 17:55, 16 July 2005 (UTC)
- It is true that some of them don't strictly fall under the definitions for CSD's but I was using the "common sense criterium". The full content of the three you quoted were:
- Hey Now! (song): One of the best Oasis songs to date,Hey Now! is probably the most underrated one of the band. It's just one the classics from the their second album.
This article was basically just POV comments which do not belong in Wikipedia. (A good article on the song would be OK in wikipedia IMO, and in any case would have to go through VFD before being deleted.) - Jimmy the dreadpirate: jimmy the dreadpirate is currently a scholar that was born in germany, but moved to the US state of Oregon at the age of two. His triumphs including skipping the 4th grade and several 4.0 grade point averages.
Hopefully nobody can disagree on this one... - Saifooz:== Headline text ==Saifooz
- Saifooz is a nikename for a great man that is living for the current century and has created many web sites and articles. He is one of the most popular users known as hackers. He is from oman and has born on 19-May-1983. He is now a Mechanical Engineering student at Sultan Qaboos University. When a PC is betwwen his hand, there will be the Third World War. Keep away and secure your PCs.
- Saifooz
- I assume you agree on the deletion of this one too...
- Hey Now! (song): One of the best Oasis songs to date,Hey Now! is probably the most underrated one of the band. It's just one the classics from the their second album.
- The content of the David Edwards (Who Wants to be a Millionaire winner) article was:David Edwards is the 2nd Million Pounds in the UK. While the subject may or may not be notable, the content was a CSD as #1, nonsense. (you could see the complete content in the deletion log in this case.)
-
- I agree that most of these articles would probably have failed a VfD. But a few of them (particularly Hey Now, Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery and David Edwards) could well have survived a VfD and been significantly improved during the process.
- I guess that under the new WP:CSD policies many more articles now meet the CSD.
- Pburka 00:08, 20 July 2005 (UTC)
-
-
- It is the dilemma about whether a really crap article about a worthy subject should be delete or improved. Of course they would survive VFD if they were improved in the process, but the question is whether they are worth the efford. I am not decided, but tend to delete them if they have been nominated and are bad enough. for example Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery, which I didn't mention above, was for one thing written all in upper case... I don't think it is fair to ask serious wikipedians to use their time on that as a starting place for an article Thue | talk 00:47, 22 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Frank D. Moores
Why do you consider the category for People from Newfoundland and Labrador redundant, why does it exist if it cannot be used? HJKeats 22:11, July 29, 2005 (UTC)
- It's a generic category that currently exists which will allow researches of each province a one-stop list that has everyone in it who has been a part of and influenced their history. As you say, those other lists are indirect, subsequently an individuals attachment to a particular province is inferred. HJKeats 10:12, July 30, 2005 (UTC)
-
- Thank you for helping me through categories and sub-categories. I understand the requirement to avoid too many category entries. Why do we have a category such as Category:People from Newfoundland and Labrador if not to place individuals in it? It would seem that all politicians cannot appear in the people from xxx category due to a sub-category that places them there. It would seem that the rule is applied spearingly as we have a number of others that appear in the People from xxx; William Lyon Mackenzie King, John Diefenbaker, Joe Clark, Adams George Archibald, just to name a few. I have been as busy as a beaver placing individuals in the People from xxx category that may have to be revisited and changed. From my perspective I found placing individuals in it quite helpful as it gave me a complete snapshot of all who were born, influenced and charted the course of history of NL.
[edit] Bad faith nomination?
How was my nomination of the Greek politician article in bad faith? I made the mistake of not checking the history so I did not realize that the current version was not the original but if you look at the version I nominated I think you will find that it is clearly not up to Wiki standards and thus was reverted by another user. Also if you actually took the time to look at my "vandalization" of the article you will see that I vandalized it to suggest its VfD'ing or fixing in a joking manner, not exactly your typical vandal material. Please be more careful with your votes and choice of words -DuckKing 01:58, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: speedy deletion of Ad/Vanity articles
The articles I marked for speedy deletion were all added in a close time period by the same user, who also wrote a self-biographical wikipedia article (this one I added to VfD as recommended by the policy -- K.Grafstein). According to Wikipedia:Deletion_of_vanity_articles, vanity articles which are certain to be non-notable (as was the case - the user was adding the small businesses of his own as articles) may be tagged for speedy deletion. Next time I will use VfD instead, but maybe the policy could be clearer on Ads of non-notable companies (as opposed to people) ?. Regards, Fbergo 00:38, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Pan_Am_Flight_125
I investigated this one closely because I suspected it wasn't being taken as seriously as it should be. I've found that this was a reported incident; the Boeing from London to New York lost pressure twice on passing through 20,000 feet, and returned to London, where it was found that the front cargo door has 1-1/2 inch open, the latch cams loose but the master handle closed, and the cargo warning light unlit. It's been referred to in other, more serious investigations. I've rewritten, but the article will still be deleted without a change of vote--if you have any doubts about your vote, please change it to keep. --Tony SidawayTalk 16:35, 8 August 2005 (UTC)

Regarding the Jessica Stover page, I wish you would stop publically displaying my IP address. I keep removing it for privacy reasons.
I started the page thinking that it does deserve to be there and still feel that, but then I emailed Jessica Stover and she said that she didn't really care to have a page in Wiki and that you'd probably delete it anyway because the show archives on AOL had recently been taken down and people don't seem to understand the scope of the show if they were not on aol and did not see it.
Since she has a lot of projects going on I think she feels in due time it will be added. Anyway, so that is why I posted the anon comment. I thought anon was anon, ie you would not post my IP for everyone to see.
So please let me know if you have other questions. Sorry to take up your time. I really appreciate you not posting my IP on wiki.
Thanks, Dave George

[edit] Bob Style
I had mixed feelings about deleting this article at the time, and looking back I agree with you that the VfD failed to reach a total consensus, especially considering that you have WP:MUSIC on your side. When consensus is not reached the article is kept by default, and I have undeleted Bob Style. It'll be a fine stub with a little cleanup. [edit] Missed the Memo
P, On September 6th the entry began "Ashida kim is the pseudnym of Radfore Davis..." I printed it out and showed it to the local cops who told me if any trouble happened at his house that the posters cold be held crimnially liable, just like the people who published the names of abortion clinic doctors who were later killed. BUT, that argument has been deleted. So, what you are acting on is mediocre and non-threatening. However, it can be changed any time by anybody to include the names of my friends again and might stay that way for days or weeks before I catch it. I ask you again, why is it so important that you keep me on your site? I am nothing, I have nothing. I eke out a meager existence selling pamphlet versions of the books that have made publishers rich and these holier-than-thou internet commandoes would take even that away from me. Just for meanness, brother. Because I'm not hurting anyone. I teach one simple self defense technique, throw sand in their eyes and run away. I call it Ninja invisibility because that is what it was called when it was taught to me. It's a simple magic trick known for centuries. Why does it offend you so much that you must continue to let these trolls abuse me?
