The peafowl genus Pavo Linnaeus, 1758 consist of two species of spectaculary plumaged pheasants with highly elongated and elaborated trains, decorated with metallic ocelli. These two species are the largest of the Phasianidae.
In captivity, the two Pavo will hybridise freely.

- Pavo bravardi, a fossil peacock from the Early - Late Pliocene.
- Gallus aesculapii, the Late Miocene - Early Pliocene "junglefowl" of Greece may also have been a peafowl.
